Hi all, I came to know that tips is very much expected on this cruise? Where and when will they expect tips? How much should we tip usually? How many to tip? Thanks.
First question - what is the source of your information? Tipping is not really part of Thai culture, although most major hotels and higher end restaurants will add "plus plus" to all bills. "Plus plus" is plus 10% service and plus 7% Government Tax. So first check your bill to see if "plus plus" is there, then consider if you have had service worthy of leaving a tip and then make your decision. Final question - what do you think they will do to you if you do not leave a tip?

I would ask those from whom you came to know this information. As pointed out, Thailand isn't a tipping culture, but many, catering to tourists, have come to expect it. If you are inclined to tip, and you see the "10% service charge", added to your bill, you can assume that none of the staff will see any part of this. Not one of the staff we spoke, with many different places, with shares that wealth. If you wish to reward great service, hand any gratuity directly to the provider of that great service.

I agree with the previous posters, locals don't tip as it is usually included on your bill at upmarket places. This gives you no option but if someone gives you exemplary service and you want to reward them, slip them some cash discreetly so no-one else will notice.

It is always nice to know when you are tipping what the income level is, but sure if you get something the value for you is what you think it is. averagesalarysurvey.com/arti...

Thanks for all your replies. I read from Tripadvisor's forum that these cruise dinners expect guest to tip them... and I'm not very sure how many ppl to tip or how much to tip.. sigh... anyway, yes, the bill already included 10% service charge! Ok, will play by the ear... thanks all...

Hi all, Just to share, I had Loy Nava criuse dinner as planned last Fri. They do expect tips as the dancers came out in the end specially to thank at every table with 200 baths on holder in their palms and when we alight after the whole dinner, they have a big basket also put 200bahts inside and thank us again expecting tips...however, some are right to say that "what can they do to you if you don't tip" haha... its just up to individual I guess... just to share with those who intend to go on a criuse dinner... Thanks all.
