Sawadee Ka I am traveling to Bangkok/Pattaya in August I was in Thailand last year. I have a disability that I have to wear a Full Length Calliper on my right leg and also a built up shoe. I would love to discover the temples but am worried as your custom is to take of shoes. What should I do??????? As last year I was embarrased to ask.I would like to say the Thai people are are the most loveliest people show such empathy to people with disabilities. I have never felt so welcome in any country. Look forward to a response Ron

If there is any question, and that is a big "if", show the apparatus. Thais will be understanding.

I agree with the above poster. If, however, you are still asked to remove your shoes is there anything you could use instead, like a sock or something? A clean sock would be allowed I would have thought.

Yes, there are many social courtesies surrounding the "religion" of Buddhism. But, Buddhism is based on the principle of accepting and dealing with life as it is presented. About the only temple, with "door police", would be the Grand Palace / Wat Phra Kaew compound. The impression that I have is that the "shoe" is an integral part. I think that once he asks for a screw driver, pliers and some wrenches, he might just get waved through! What will draw more attention is his using "Sawadee Ka". Better make that "Sawadee Kawp!" Wombat!
