My husband and I would love to go to Thailand but don't know if right now is the time. I was wondering if places frequented by tourists are open. We are hoping to go to Bangkok, Chang Mai, and Puket.
are you talking about the floods that occurred last year? Many many people have been traveling to Thailand even immediately after the floods. Although I've not personally gone, several friends have visited and all is fine! Go and enjoy, it's an amazing country. Homer

Most have recovered from last year's devastating floods, at least from a tourism perspective. We are now heading into more rain, as we approach june and beyond. This can always bring isolated flooding, but nothing like last year.

You will have no problem, the floods are gone, but just keep an eye on the weather situation for this year, the rainy season will soon be upon us again.

Even during the floods it was not that hard to be a tourist there. I was going through Bangkok a few times when the floods were happening and they only affected some parts of the city and mainly to the north where tourists rarely go. When you flew in to Bangkok you could clearly see them flooding parts of the city, but you did not feel it that much once you were there.

"My husband and I would love to go to Thailand but don't know if right now is the time. I was wondering if places frequented by tourists are open. Last year with floods and political demonstrations Thailand received over 17 million tourists. That was an increase over the previous year! Even when Bangkok was flooded tourists by the millions were still showing up. Tourists just chose other parts of the city to stay in or other cities to visit. This is just like when political protests were going on - tourists just avoid those areas. When there is flooding it is not like Noah's Ark type flooding anyway!! Visit or not is up to you. But I would not be surprised if even more tourists will show up in Thailand than in 2011. Up to you!

I understand that people they can be worried about these issues if they have never been out there. The media only tells the story as everything is bad, but does hardly ever come back and tell when things are back to normal. This is why so many people think travelling the world is a dangorous persuit when it isen“t really that bad afterall.
