How much wld the public taxi cost, approximately, from airport to Sukumvit? (2)Is Majestic Grand hotel a good and convenient place to put up?(3)Besides Chatuchak market & Siam Square, what other shopping areas should i visit? (4) Are there any other places of interests which I should visit besides the river market and Bangkok Palace? (5)Clubbing venues? (6)Traditional Massage venues? (7)Cabaret show venues? Thanks a million for your help on the above!!!

There are coupon taxi outside the airport. I tried it once and found it alright, although a bit expensive (I think, I paid 800 baht to Sukhumvit). The advantage is, they list down your name, destination and cab number for safety and security reasons. There are other shopping options like Pratunam, Siam Center, MBK, World Trade Center. I heard, there are also factory outlets but not familiar with them. Aside from the Grand Palace, you may visit other temples like Wat Arun, Wat Po, etc. and Vinmanmek Palace. For cabaret shows, there's a hotel that advertises a nightly transvestite show with dinner for 1,000-2,000baht per person, just can't recall the name.

Hi there! Just got back on Saturday from the amazing Bangkok. I used taxi quite a lot to places where the Skytrain isn't going. Well yes its pretty safe to take a taxi just choose one that is in good shape. I took from a hotel close to yours to airport a taxi and price was 155 Baht plus roadtoll 60 Baht and a small tip of course. I think the best thing is to go to the departure level and grab a cab there since they drop people off there and gladly takes a new customer. Saves the 50 Baht airport fee..... 2. Majestic Hotel is good I heard. I chose Woraburi because they had a swimming pool and a nice buffe breakfast. But Majestic should have better rooms thou. That's just what I heard. 3. Shopping hmmm I always took Skytrain to Chit Lom and walked from there to many shopping centres some how Siam square look too fancy for me... Visit China town to get threal feelings and good prices (copy products alot but the price is much lower). 4. You must have spinn o the river I loved that.I saw many Wats but skipped Grand Palace don't know why.... I did a day trip to the old capital that has loads of tempel and old ones... 5. Ask about clubbing from the hotel and sam goes for question 6. 7.Cabaree shows are shown in many places so just ask around what is happening that evening. One things that I didn't go and see is the Maya Thai boxing but I'll do that next time. I hope this will help you a bit. Regards, Mace

1.It is safe to take taxis outside Don Muang Airport. Metered Taxi fare from airport to Sukhumvit is around 150-200 Baht. From the airport, the taxi driver will ask if you want to take the flyover route for an additional 50 baht charge. 2.Majestic Grand is a nice hotel. 3.You can also try MBK-a 7 storey shopping mall where you can shop for almost everything in convenience. Prices here at MBK is very affordable but you need to know how to huggle good. I tried patpong market but i found it quite congested and prices are higher than chatuchak or MBK.4.There are lots of places of interests in bangkok-try taking the riverboat in chaophraya river. This boat will take you to the grand palace, wat po, wat arun, royal temple etc etc. I suggest you take the 100Baht river cruise. Visit the royal lapidary, rama v and victory monument.5. patpong is well known for strips of bars and shows but if you want some quiet ambience try the sukhumvit area.6. massage parlours are everywhere even in malls. rate is from 200-500 baht-traditional body massage.7. patpong is where you can find dozens of cabaret shows.

Wat Po has traditional Thai massage for very cheap. It's very casual; the masseurs are friendly and chat with eachother while massaging you. Don't know if this place is your thing, but it is very affordable so if you didn't like it you haven't wasted a lot of money.

As said Ian, regular taxi taken from the airport taxi kiosk should cost you around 300 Bath to your hotel. YOu can also use the airport buses (line 3) to Sukkumvith, it is 100 Bath per pax (see my page). Using taxi in Bkk is very safe and most of the driver are using the meter as a routine so not much hassle on that point. Personally, I like to visit Jim Thompson House. Interesting, easy access and nice cafetariat. Guided visit is compulsary and cost 100 Bath. For shopping there are the night markets and also Pratunam. For department store, my favorite ones are central chidlom and emporium. Both have an access from/to BTS. Njoy your trip ! L

The best known Transvestite cabaret show is the Calypso Cabaret at the Asia hotel see http://www.calypsocabaret.com/ for details (but it's a very slow site as it has a lot of multimedia displays.

Hi, As above with the answers to everything else. On arrival in bangkok I got a limo to my hotel which cost 600 Baht, the trip back cost me 250 Baht. There are plenty of places to shop in Bangkok but if any men approach you, typically carrying a mobile phone (in a belt holder) and try and put you in a tuk-tuk to go to a special discount shopping place just don't do it. There is some sort of cartel in the city that basically send tourists to certain shops, which they then get a commission for (by charging YOU more). The same applies if they tell you that a certain place is closed for bhuddists days, or at the palaces i got told they were shut for two hours (while I could see people actually walking in and paying) You will also get sob stories about tuk-tuk drivers not getting petrol coupons and the thai government taking over the shops to generate taxes. It is all lies. If you encouter them tell them you don't think they are telling the truth and then leave.
