Airport

by Yolanda1975 Online Now Mar 24, 2013 at 10:47 AM

When we arrive at S airport we only have 1 hour 50 min before we have to catch our next flight to Phuket. Will this be enough time to collect our luggage, go through customs and book in for our next flight? We arrive 05:55 in the morning - int flight.

You should be ok with that much time. The only thing that can slow you down is the baggage claim process. Otherwise the rest is routine.

Suvarnabhumi Airport is pretty modern and fast. Your luggage will be out on the carousel before you get through immigration. you have plenty of time as the Thai authorities has these detail down to a science. Just make sure your connection is made at the same airport.

If you are arriving by Thai airways you can have your luggage checked in all the way through Phuket and also have the option of getting your immigration at Phuket Airport.

Baggage delivery is fast enough but the que at BKK Immigration can be very long when many flights land at the same time and can take up to 30 min or more (mostly because many tourists do not fill the arrival card properly or do not fill it at all and waste time to the peoples waiting behind them) if you have to check in for the domestic flight with your luggage then its too tight as you will have to join another que at the domestic boarding counter 2 floors up. If you fail to report on time time your ticket will/can be void.

I agree with above, should be fine.
Having said that, our last time in Bangkok at the new and "improved" airport, Virgin lost our luggage to two passengers.
It took over 2 hours before we had any word and problem resolved of forwarding our luggage.
Rest of luggage came out within 1/2 hour.
As you will be flying domestic at that point, having cleared customs and visa process, remainder of flight should go smooth including check in, especially at that time of the morning.

If your flight is @ 5.55 AM is Thai Airways flight 961 from Stockholm connecting on Thai Airways 201 @ 7.55? If so ask for the luggage delivery/boarding pass up to Phuket (show them onward tciket)

I agree with the general opinion that there is just enough time providing your plane is not late arriving. Look at the airport plan and study which part of the terminal you will be going to for your connection, have your arrival card filled in properly and when you check in on your original flight ask for a seat near the door so you can get off the plane quickly. Quite often planes coming from Europe can be early

    Hi
You should have no problems. The 1 hour 50 minutes easily meets the minimum connection criteria, however, if the first flight was delayed for whatever reason, you would be one of the first passengers allowed to leave the aircraft once it arrived at Bangkok to catch that connection.

We are assuming that your departure to Phuket is from Suvarnabhumi and not Don Muang.

If from DM you ain't gonna make your connecting flight!

What airline are you using to get to Phuket?   Are you arriving on Thai Air and leaving Suvarnabhumi also on Thai Air?

When you leave your plane at Suvarnabhumi walk a little faster and make your toilet and smoke breaks after you go through immigration.   Most of the time when I go through immigration I  finish when the bags are still coming out.

    Good luck.
