April 13th. is "Songkran" the Thai New Year. Im not sure about Bangkok but all banks and government offices are closed for the day here in Phuket. It is the only day of the year that we close our dive center & tour company to join the festivities. If you are planning to venture out onto the streets be warned that this holiday is known as the "National Waterfight" and you can plan on being soaked just a few minutes after leaving the safety of your hotel. I hope this info helps with your advance holiday planning and regards from Phuket.

Songkran, Thai new year, is celebrated April 13~15. Some smaller shops may close so that the owners can go visit "upcountry". But, most shopping, dining and entertainment venues really won't be affected.

Travel, outside of Bangkok, can be a problem, due to the many people traveling during this period.

If you visit over Songkran, be prepared to get wet. The holiday is celebrated by a citywide water fight. Although concentrated in some areas, one can get soaked just about anywhere.

Just prepare yourself, place electronic in waterproof bags, and keep a happy face. You'll get through it. Many actually enjoy it!

As far as banks are concerned, there are plenty of currency exchanges all over the city. Plus, most bank branches, in shopping malls, are open 365 days a year.

Yes, Songkran, the Thai New Year where the locals throw water over you for 3 days. If you are out on the street you are part of it, so keep your important documents in a sealed waterproof bag and don't get angry if you get doused with water. It is great fun, enjoy your holiday!!!
