    • Visiting Sequoia Natiional Park in February

Sequoia National Park 2 hours ago

Visiting Sequoia National Park for one day in mid-February. I will be in a rental car. Are there routes into the park via highways without chain restrictions on vehicles? Having a hard time finding information online.

I would like to take a snowshoe tour, but will not be able to put chains on my vehicle.

Flying in and could rent a car, if advised. We are healthy and youngish and love local charm as opposed to big city lunacy but have never been to Charlotte.

Tybee Island in March for a day trip, or for several days?

Tybee Island Jan 18, 2016 at 3:04 PM

Hi - We are flying into Savannah for 8 nights in mid March. Trying to decide if we should stay in one place in the historic district (near River Street or Forsyth Garden) for the whole time, or split it into 3 nights on Tybee then 5 nights in Savannah - or some other combination. We want to end our stay in Savannah, as we will be there for St. Patrick's Day. Does anyone have any recommendations as to how to best use our time? We will have a rental car, and thought we'd explore the coastal areas, and enjoy the local history. Any/all suggestions welcome.

Where do you recommend for a day out from from NYC on the LIRR?

Long Island Jan 18, 2016 at 5:38 AM

I have never been anywhere very much on Long Island on my many visits to NYC and wondered about taking a day trip out of the city on the LIRR. Can anyone recommend the best line/a destination to head for? We (two mature adults - like walking/photography/eating out - would like to see some of the coastal scenery and maybe spend a couple of hours or more in one of the villages/small towns. I like the look of the Montauk branch but appreciate Montauk itself might be too far. Where is nice to have a meal, a wander round and return all within one day? We would be visiting in mid-April. Thank you. Sam

Should I be poised at my computer, mouse ready at 1 minute past midnight on the relevant day (when the four month window opens)? We are concerned if we miss out it will be late to find anything else and we are already struggling to find alternative tent camping options which one can reserve in advance (beyond Devils Gdn in Arches where we hope to spend a couple of nights). PLUS, we live in a very small town and just aren't that savvy when it comes to travel. But we are longing to see our kids, so are willing to step outside our comfort zone!
