Hi My wife & I are aiming to come to australia for an extended visit either later this year or early next. My wifes father was born at No 5 Reuss Street Balmain North as we intend visiting Sidney I was wondering if anyone can give me some info if or not Reuss Street still exists. If not, any info regarding roughly where about it was, & possibly what is or has been put in it's place. Hopefully John Lincolnshire England

Reuss St is still listed in the local street directory, however that part of North Balmain is also known as Birchwood, you could probably ask for either if you took a taxi. It is two streets up from Birchgrove primary school and there is a church opposite. If you need any more info, just email me. PS. It's Sydney, not Sidney!

Hi Sorry about the spelling I think that I must have been in a hurry. I have had a look at (www.whereis.com/whereis/home.do) as Jeremy suggested & I have found a Reuss Street but it says that it is off Birchgrove Road and as you say it is 2 streets down from the Birchgrove primary school. Should it be Birchgrove or is the map wrong? Many thanks for the help. Regards John

large areas in the city tend to be segmented into a lot of smaller areas as time goes on to avoid confusion. As I said, you could ask for either. If it was a long time ago that your father in law was born there, the area would probably have been known as balmain.
