Bali & Lombok: worth a trip?

by skippermax1 Online Now Jan 14, 2013 at 1:00 PM

HI!! I hope you are all well. I am just back from a fab trip to West Coast Australia & am already planning a trip for next July. I am in my mid-30's, love travel, seeing new places & new cultures ( I am very interested in Buddhist culture), I am very active and love hiking, swimming, snorkelling etc... I hear mixed reports on Bali: some say it has been destroyed by tourism: Is it still worth a trip? I'm looking at doing an adventure group tour and then having a few days to travel on my own; here's the itinerary... intrepidtravel.com/indonesia... Any advice would be appreciated! Kind regards! Dave

Hi Folks, I am travelling to Bali with my wife on Aug 1st to 6th. I am a elbow crutch user, with a fair bit accessibility (basically I can climb stairs with rails, or those with enough area to rest my feet). I wanted to check what are the tourist spots that are not very disabled accessible that (a) I should avoid (b) take any assistance if available ? Any insight would be well appreciated. Cheers, Prashanth

by lilywong Online Now May 27, 2012 at 11:19 AM

Hi, I and my hubby will be going to Bali in Oct and not sure which area should we stay becos I don't have any single idea about the geographic location of Kuta, Ubud and a lot other area names I've seen from the VT reviews. Understand that Kuta is too commercial. Since we are not sea sports or beach lovers so it's no need to stay around the beach side. Other than the Sukowati market, Matahari, Candikuning market etc, where can we go to experience more local people daily lives e.g. vegetable market, internet cafe (if there's any) etc? Many tks,

    • Ubud hotels near Monkey Forest Road

by pagibaru Online Now Apr 16, 2012 at 10:44 AM

New ideas needed! My wife is in Ubud now, staying at a house on Jl.Bisma where she has stayed before. This time, though, heavy construction is going on at the Pertiwi across the stream from the house. She would like to move someplace quieter on M.F Road or Jl. Bisma. We know a number of the places on Monkey Forest but could use some help here. Wishes: A/C, pool, clean, upper room if possible with private balcony, safe and secure for personal belongings(safety box). Can go as high as Rp500,000 or so. Thoughts? Ubud Inn, White House, Dewi Ayu, gimme some feedback here. Tegal Sagi/Greenfields is a bit far from her usual haunts(Tutmak,Sagittarius, Cafe Wayan) and usually booked solid. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Bali place to stay for arriving late

by vieviengan Online Now Mar 26, 2012 at 5:42 AM

Hi , I will be arriving in Bali in the late evening, so I wouldn't want to spend too much on a hotel where I will be just sleeping. My budget will be about Usd30-50 for a night, prefer to be in Kuta or places with food. First day arriving would be tiring, so we just need a place near food so that we dont need to walk too far after checking in and probably some places that we can walk around for the first night .

      Bali for 7 days

by Poling Online Now Jan 16, 2012 at 4:56 PM

My original plan was for 4 days but got extended. I would like to have suggestions on how to spend the extra 3 days there. Day 1: travel from Lombokt to Ubud, SPA in the afternoon Day 2: Rent a car for Pura Tirta Empul/Goa Gajah/Kintamani/Grand Puncak Sari/Tegallalang Day 3: Ubud Place/Market, SPA in the afternoon Day 4: no plan Day 5: Rent a car from Ubud to Kuta, also visit: Taman Ayun/Tanah Lot/ Uluwatu/Jimbaran Day 6: no plan Day 7: discovery mall shopping/fly to Jarkarta in the evening For D4 in Ubud and D6 in Kuta any day trip I can go? I would rely on car rent as I don't drive. I can't swim so won't be able to join water activities. For the traffic from Kuta to airport, I know it is about 1.5 hours, but do I need to go earlier as I heard traffic in Bali is not very good. My flight departs at 1800. Thank you!

by moonrei Online Now Nov 22, 2011 at 7:04 AM

I have been to bali once before on a packaged tour and did the Kintamani, Ubid etc tour which most have done. I will be there in mid Dec for 4D3N and have some questions 1.) what other type of tour can you recommend I do? I was thinking of perhaps doing a cycling tour through villages in Ubud. Pls suggest 2.) Is there any nice place to snorkel where the corals still alive near Seminyak where I am staying.? 3.)How about white water rafting anybody tried that before? 4.)How do you get around say from Seminyak to Kuta or shopping centres? Is there an official metered taxi to avoid being cheated? I don't even mind taking local buses if it is easy to get around with. 5.) I know there is Matahari, are there any other large shopping centres worth visiting like those found in bankok. Not looking for high end or traditional balines stuff. Are there any night markets in bali like in Thailand? 6.) Is the exchange rate better in Indonesia airport than in our home countries? Thanks to all for your suggestions and ideas.

    • Place to sleep in padang bai, Lombok & the gilis islands!

by misslisa Online Now Nov 3, 2011 at 7:06 PM

Hi everyone! Got a few questions for you! 1) my boyfriend and I are headed to Lombok in a few days. Is Padang bai worth drying a night or 2 in or should we just connect directly to Lombok? 2) has anyone had any bad experiences with cops while renting scooters on Lombok? We rented them in kuta and got stopped by the police on numerous occasions fr nonsence reasons and had to give the money in order to be let go. 3) does anyone have any recommendations for accommodations in either Padang bai, Lombok or gili meno or gili air. We are looking for something under 200,000. (the cheaper the better) Air conditioning and hot water is NOT necessary but more a of bonus if we can get it at a good price! Any tips would be greatly appreciated! We are in ubud now and are loving it!! Cheers everyone! And thank you!!! Lisa

    • March - Rainy Season in Bali?

by smigor Online Now Oct 15, 2011 at 1:44 PM

We are considering a trip to Bali I n March next year. The area that we would be interested in staying is Ubud. I have read that this is the rainy season and I wonder what this means. Rains for days on end or short daily downpours? We are more interested in touring and culture and less in beach activities. How will the weather patterns affect our potential enjoyment at this time if year? Given a choice, we would not travel at this time of fear but we do not have much flexibility. Thanks for your help!

Hi Vters , This is my second time visiting Bali, thus would like to focus on a few things below that I hope some of you might be able to help or point me to the right direction :- a) Focus on Sunrise and Sunset photography ~ prelim location includes Besakih Temple , Uluwatu , Pura Ulun Danu & Tirtaganga. Dont want to go to other distractions or shopping or usual touristy stops , thus wondering if its better to get a guide or drive myself instead of a package tour ? Any suggestion would be appreciated ... b) Heard Besakih is good for sunrise, while Uluwatu & Tanah Lot is good for sunset , any other locations ? c) Any good restaurants as well as restaurants with a "WoW' dining effect ...eg Sunset view etc ... Thanks
