I am a 23 year old college grad. My boyfriend and I want to move to California. We were giving serious thought to Bakersfield, but I've gotten mixed reviews about the town. We are looking for a town that has a population over 150,000 that has nice weather and semi-affordable living. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

No, we're just brainstorming right now. We know that we want to move to California and Bakersfield was one of the cities we narrowed down.

Is it s city for singles. Are there a lot of young people, bar scene, etc? My father lived in CA for a while and he mentioned Ventura to me also.

there is an even nicer town about ten miles from Paso Robles , It begins with Atascpa-----, that is about 20 degrees F cooler in summer. I cannot remember the full name.. I bet a person could even afford to put a roof over their head in that part of CA.

No offense meant to those who live in Bakersfield, but I consider it a place to stop for a meal, enroute to somewhere else. Santa Barbara, San Diego, and San Luis Obispo are beautiful, although I'm not sure what your budget is. Cost of living is higher in CA than in other parts of the continental U.S.

Thank you to everyone who has replied. All of you and this website has been the best resource I have come across. Real estate agents aren't exactly helpful with general information. I'm sure I will have many more questions and any future advice from you will be wonderful.
