Want to stay with a family in a guesthouse

by jamisonpi Online Now Feb 21, 2013 at 6:34 PM

My son and I will be traveling to Austria to train in table tennis in Schwechat. We do not want to stay in Schwechat but are drawn to Baden Bei Wien. I would like to stay in an apartment or live with a family near the center of town. We would like to be able to take a train everyday to Schwechat and Vienna on our free days. Can anyone offer me any suggestions or know someone that we can stay with?

Thanks

One good way to achieve your goal of staying with a family is to check with www.couchsurfing.org. Register and write a description for the sort of situation you want as well as contact anyone in the area who might be able to host you. It's 100% free.

i googled unterkunft+baden+bei+wien and quite a lot of appropriate websites appeared, most have an English option. Pension Maria looked nice and there are more Pensions further down the page. The word pension is a term for a Guesthouse. It is not pronounced pension as receiving a pension, but with a French pronunciation.

The local tourist offices know the various types of structures as well as the availabilities. They won't charge you any commission. It's a free service. Here are the contact possibilities:

    Tel.: +43/ 2252/ 22600-600 E-Mail: info@baden.at Internet: www.baden.at

Ok, ty, I am not comfortable sleeping on peoples' couches with my son. I would be concerned with my safety.

Don't think it's just old couches or space on the floor. I'm a host myself and offer a spare bedroom with queen-size bed. I'm sure there are plenty of those as well. All you have to do is read the prospective host's profile to see what they offer. Relax and enjoy the process.

don,t you have to offer a reciprocal arrangement for other couch surfers too? That is how it works, you can use their home and they can use yours.

just have a look at the Pensions in Baden, their were quite a lot there at a reasonable price.

Not at all. There is no requirement for reciprocity. Some people like me just host but have never been hosted. Others only use it for a place to sleep while traveling.

So now I am learning that Baden is so far by train and it takes so long to get to Schwechat.  Are there any quaint towns close to Schwechat that would be good to stay in?  I don't want to stay in Schwechat as I am reading there is not much to see or do there.

Have a look at google maps and type in Schwechat, I had a look and it isn,t a very tiny place, it actually looks rather nice. There are supermarkets and so on there. You are still within easy reach of Vienna so could catch the train or bus and visit Vienna and surrounds whenever you want to.

Everyone that I have spoken to who live in Vienna tell me that there is nothing to do there and nothing to see.

And why not considering staying in Vienna? In 30 minutes you are in the city centre. Much closer than Baden. Regards Ottavio N.
