My first time to travel alone. Destination: Bacolod

by jecmac Online Now Sep 5, 2011 at 10:01 PM

I'd be going on my first solo travel in October and I've chosen to visit Bacolod. It will be a short stay, from October 5 to 7. My flight in is in the afternoon of 5th and flight out in the morning of 7th. Basically, I've got a day and a half to roam. Any suggestions please on the itinerary? I would like to cover as much of the place as possible. I prefer to use the the public transport or walk if possible. I'm not that good in directions so please, details would be much appreciated. Thanks!

hmmm basically, you have 3D/2N stay in bacolod, right? when you get here on the 5th, i suggest that you take shuttle van from airport to bacolod, check in the hotel and you can go visit The Ruins by sunset and explore Bacolod's night light afterwards. Try eating dinner at Chicken house or Manokan Country (near sm city) for authentic chicken inasal. Then you can have your dessert at Calea (along lacson st.)... on the 6th, you can have your day tour in Mambukal. Mambukal is a mountain resort 45 minutes from Bacolod. Then go back to Bacolod in the afternoon. If you have time, you can go to Silay City and visit the ancestral houses there, Silay is around 45minutes north of Bacolod also. If not, you can do your shopping and go around the City after Mambukal. Then next day, if you still have time and you dont have much things to bring, you can drop by Silay City and visit the ancestral houses. The airport is in Silay City too, so from there, it only takes a few minutes going to the airport. By the way, where are you from? Buena

Thanks Paolo. Yep, I find this site very useful but would just want to know more details. I've just started traveling and would want to have as much info as possible before I go into this solo travel.

Thanks Buena. That looks like a workable itinerary for me. I'd add this up to my DIY travel guide. Would it be okay to do my pasalubong shopping on the 3rd day? My flight is at 11 AM. Would there be stores open early in the morning? In going to Mambukal resort, would I need to hire a cab or I can take the bus? =) And btw, I live in Caloocan and work in Ortigas. Thanks!

It depends on what pasalubong you will buy. For piaya and other local delicacies, or shirts, you can buy them at SM at Bong Bong's or at Merci's. If you want cakes from Calea (people from Manila usually like it), I think they open at 9am, so I duno if you can still buy some before your trip, or perhaps buy them on the 2nd night as well. Where will you be staying here? In going to Mambukal, you can take minibus/jeepneys. The terminal is in Lopez Jaena St.,near Libertad. It would probably be expensive if you'll hire a car in going there. From Mambukal, there are lots of buses waiting there also going back to bacolod, i think the last trip is 4pm or around like that. If you want, we could meet up, maybe some cakes and coffee at Calea or somewhere. ;) just let me know...

I guess I would have to do my pasalubong shopping on the second day too just to make sure I've got enough time. I still don't have a place to stay in. I've made several e-mail inquiries to some of the inns (last one is 11th bed and breakfast). No reply yet from them. Would it already be crowded in the hotels during that time? It's still a week from the festival right? Any other suggestion for hotel? I just need it to have its own CR. =) Hope its okay to bug you more on directions once I get to finalize my itinerary and place of stay. I've got a tendency to get lost so I'd be getting as much instructions as I could. That would be nice. =) Would be nice to meet you. Perhaps we can finalize once I get it all fixed up. Thanks!
