I plan to travel to Azerbaijan for about 5 or 7 days. What would be the best things a tourist might be interested in seeing in Azerbaijan ?
It depends on when you go. If in the winter, the mountain villages (like Lahic or Xinaliq) are pretty much a no-go. Any other time of year, they're AWESOME. And my favourite parts of the country. Assuming you're coming from Georgia, taking the northern border crossing (not the train) and down into Sheki. With an old fort and a laid-back feel, it's worth a day. A short half-day trip to the village of Kish is also very much worth it to get a "mountain village" feel without heading into the mountains. Baku is easily worth a day, if not 2. A day trip to Qobostan mud volcanoes/petroglyphs s pretty much mandatory. Mardekan has a couple cool guard towers and likely the nicest beach in Azerbaijan.
