    • Bike Rental

      Vienna 3 hours ago

      Hi,
We are vacationing in Austria. We are in the burg of Donaufeld and would like to rent a bike. I know there are the "City Bikes" in downtown Vienna, but we would like to find one closer to where we are staying...Donaufeld. Does anyone know of a bike store or place where we could rent one bike for several days? Our preference is a hybrid bike. We would like to ride on the trails along the Danube...beautiful!!

I get my information from different websites, and I'm going to buy the entrance tickets online. I understand that the upper and lower Belvedere are separate, that I can see the lower on one day, coming early to see the Prunkstall that's open only in the morning. And the upper Belvedere on Thursday to see also at noon the painting restoration. The restoration is open on Tuesday too, but I have a concert in the early evening.

We'll be staying at the Beethoven hotel, I guess we'll use the metro stations at the Karlsplaz. To which stations should we travel for each Belvedere? or use a tram? or walk to the Lower, it looks close on the map.

I just stumbled across this offer (it looks like the German Lander ticket). It seems expensive, but might suit us for some of our short, local trips out from Salzburg. I am assuming it is only for the state it is bought in, like Lander. It may not make economic sense, but I will compare it to buying individual tix for trains.

We don't go to any public place where there's the smell of cigarette smoke. I don't like to enter a place, sniffle around and leave.
Our hotel is near the Naschmarkt, so we'll have quite a choice of eating places. We're coming in April, so that's not a season to sit outside.

      Dürnstein Mar 17, 2014 at 6:50 AM

We would like to stop off at Durnstein on our day trip through the Wachau valley. We intend to buy a combi ticket from Vienna and get off the boat at Durnstein instead Krems. We should arrive in Durnstein at about 15.10.

      1) how long is the walk into town from where we will dock and what would be the best use of our time there as we will only have about an hour or so.
      2) from Durnstein we will have to get to Krems for our journey back to Vienna, should we take a bus or is there a train to take us to Krems, we plan to catch the 18.02 train back to Vienna and would like a little time also in Krems if possible.

      many thanks

    • Vienna Airport to Innsbruck

      Austria Mar 13, 2014 at 1:04 PM

I am arriving at Vienna international Airport at 1:10 pm from USA and need to get to innsbruck hopefully the same night as I am joining some friends there.
I was hoping to take the direct flight but the flight is $450 for an evening flight on the same day which is quite expensive.
I am now considering taking a train by buying a Austria train pass for 1 week

I am searching online for trains and passes and so many options show up. I thought there is one national train company which would offer this pass.

      1. Can someone tell me which one is the correct one to buy? I am going to be in Austria for 7 days and hope to go to Innsbruck, Salzburg and Vienna.

      2. I saw some trains from Vienna Airport to Innsbruck using the 1187 bus and Railjet which seem reasonable. Is this a part of any Train pass for 7 days?

These are the two links I saw:
      eurail.com/eurail-passes/one...

      raileurope.com/rail-tickets-...

Can I buy the correct one from USA or do I need to buy it once I arrive in Austria?

I would like to buy it before if its possible.

Thanks for your help in advance!

In September 2014 as part of our European trip we are planning to travel from Hallstatt to Innsbruck. I've tried to get train information about this train trip and the response I get is "we cannot give you information at this time". Does that mean that there isn't one train to take us there and we have to take a couple trains/bus or they just don't have the train schedule as yet?

I am arriving at Vienna international Airport at 6:30 pm from USA and need to get to innsbruck hopefully the same night or worst comes worst the next morning as I am joining some friends there.

I was hoping to take the direct flight but the flight is $450. These are some trains options:

      19:30 WIEN WESTBAHNHOF - 23:48 INNSBRUCK HBF Railjet 764 - Reservation included

      22:40 WIEN WESTBAHNHOF - 03:32 INNSBRUCK HBF 4h 52m Euronight 466 - Reservation not included

      1. Is it safe to take the trains so late in the night as a Solo woman tourist?
      2. How do I get from the Airport to the train station?
      3. Is it better to just spend the night at a cheap hotel close to the airport and take the first flight out next morning as its still $89?
