Australia/New Zealand: budget airlines?

by SWFC_Fan Online Now Mar 19, 2006 at 2:35 PM

Hello Antipodean VTers! I'm just trying to book flights between New Zealand and Australia for April. I'm planning to fly from Auckland to Adelaide on 3rd April and then from Brisbane to either Auckland or Wellington around the 28th April. I've searched various options (individual one-way flights, multi-city flights) with Pacific Blue, Freedom Air and Air New Zealand. Are there any other budget airlines operating on these routes? I can't seem to find any. The best prices I can find (after taxes)are: Auckland - Adelaide (359 NZD) Brisbane - Auckland (259 AUD) I'm probably going to book these flights tomorrow morning unless anybody knows of any airlines (or a comprehensive flight search engine) that I should check first. Finally, I assume the budget airline market down there operates like its European counterpart - ie. the later I leave it to book, the higher the price will be? Thanks to anyone that can offer any assistance! :-) Jonathan

The only other option to try is Qantas. Costs do rise closer to departure dates and the prices you have found will be the best you can get. It is most often cheaper to buy a return flight than 2 one ways to different destinations. Good luck!

Thanks, Jo I'll check Qantas out. Maybe a return flight from Auckland to Adelaide and a one-way flight from Brisbane to Adelaide will work out cheaper. Back to the search engines..... Thanks again, Jonathan

Most airlines offer one way flight prices rather than returns. They're used to popel shopping round. I see you are are on-line now, Jonathan. If you check out virginblue.com.au NOW they have a one hour happy hour (12 noon-1pm, EST). www.webjet.com.au is the search engine to use - sadly there are few budget options here.

Cheers for that, Keith! :-) Just checked the Virgin Blue site. It seems that Happy Hour is starting in 30 minutes time. I'll try my luck then. Fingers crossed! Thanks again, Jonathan

Don't worry, Martin - Forest will bounce back to the Championship next season (if they don't scrape in to the play-offs this year). We had two seasons down in League 1 and we were pretty lucky to get out of it at the second attempt. Forest are rapidly improving since getting rid of Megson. Hopefully we'll still be around in the Championship when you do bounce back!
