Is there a ferry service connecting New Zealand and Australia and/or other islands? I can't find anything trying to do a google search. We'll most likely be flying into Auckland, NZ or Sydney, AU and would like to visit other countries within the week. This will be our first trip so we are so excited about going! Thanks in advance! Cindy
There is no ferry service connecting the two countries..:-( check Flightcentre.com.au for cheap flights between the 2 countries

For the cheapest flights you really should book and ticket ON-LINE. These links are the best for you to compare. The first two are Trans Tasman cheaper flights rivals, but you WILL be surprised at those comparisons against the major international carrier EMIRATES AIRLINES, who are amazing. www.jetstar.com/au www.flypacificblue.com.au www.emirates.com/nz/specialfares/specialfares.asp Any other tips needed, please come back. GOOD LUCK!

It would be a 3 or 4 day ferry trip I think. There's just not enough demand when a flight takes 3 to 4 hours. You can occassionally get on a cruise ship and sail the Tasman Sea if you like. But timing is cruicial, as it wouldn't be a scheduled service.

within one week....you say.. that's too little time to be spending on a couple of little islands. Personally I would spend more time In Australia. There's heaps more to see and we have sheep here too :-)

Yes I tend to agree, although I wasn't sure what they meant by "within the week". Could have been they mean to leave Aust inside a week of arriving. But it really sounds like there is not enough time to even consider coming to NZ. It's not like going from country to country in Europe LOL ;-)

Dear "kiwi" ::::::: With respect which "3 or 4 day" .... "ferry" ????? THERE IS NONE !!!! However, I have made voyages in special passenger suites on cargo carrying ships. These DO travel to and from Australia/New Zealand ports almost with daily sailings. In fact this mode of travel can be a real eye-opener for the traveller who wishes to visit Ports that are not cruise ship itinerary destinations. Best wishes.

No, no, I wasn't saying there is a ferry. I was bringing to the member's attention that it's not just a skip across the ditch :-) I did go on to say there isn't enough demand, meaning there isn't enough demand for a scheduled ferry as most foreigners are used to . Glad you utilise the sea crossings, though. Hope you write, if you haven't already, some tips about them. We often get questions from people who don't like to fly, and or prefer sea travel to air. Oh and I respect your respect :-))

I'm still looking for the bridge that connects Sydney to Auckland that the Aussies told me about when I first arrived in Sydney. I thought I was in New Zealand once and even brought my passport, but somebody informed me it was just Milson's Point, Sydney. :(

Ferry to N.Z.; one week and you want to visit other countries??? Try instead a week on one of the N.Z. island or one of the Australian states. Anything else, in my opinion, is ludicrous. You'd simply spend all of your time travelling. Imagine me flying to Italy and expecting to see lots of other countries in a week. I've already spent over two months in Italy on two trips and haven't seen half of what there is to see. It's the same over here. Cheers.

I'm not sure she means that. Could be she means they are leaving Australia within a week. Rather than that they are going to do all this in a week.
