NW Atlanta is a large area so it depends. If you're talking about Buckhead, it's one of the better areas. "Downtown" has some spots but in general all the times I've been to Atlanta I've never run into issues even wandering at night.

A quick check. This hotel has gotten 4 horrible reviews this year alone. I think you need to look elsewhere. I know I wouldn't stay there!

No, it's not. While I was living in Atlanta, I actually distinctly recall seeing that hotel on an episode of COPS from a couple of years ago. IIRC, it was a shooting call. If you want to stay in central Atlanta, you really need to stay Downtown or Buckhead. There are a lot of bad hotels outside of those areas.
