3 Days in Athens..

by Kiko1988 Online Now Aug 2, 2011 at 5:12 PM

So, I'm finally visiting Athens on 11th of August for 3 days and would like to know if my itinerary is good.

Day 1:
Acropolis
Acropolis Museum
Plaka

Day 2:
Lycabettus Hill and maybe Glyfada?

- I'm not interested in seeing the Agora but I don't know what else is there ?
- I want to know if there is a place or a resturant that has live GREEK music or anything like that?

- Shopping ?!?!

Thanks in advance

    Hi

if you are staying in Plaka area- there are very many tavernas that have live music and dancing,at night.
    Other suggestions;
Go and watch the changing of the guard at Parliament House......every hour, and very intersting. Botanical Gardens nearby are lovely.
The markets near Plaka are worth a visit.
There is a 'little red train' which is excellent. It costs 6euros for a full day ticket, and you can hop on/off wherever. It goes to most intersting places. The train passes through Plaka too, and also stops at Acropolis and museums. I highly recommend using it, the guides onboard speak english and give good commentary.
A daytrip to Hydra is a good idea.

    Thank you so much.

I also came across the Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon and I find it very interesting. Any idea how to get there?

Which is better Aegina, Hydra or Poros for a day trip?

Aegina is my choice. wonderful town and nice villages. I rented a scooter when I got there and went all over...had a fun day and the island is small enough that you can't get lost. Just take it easy when going down the hills to the beaches...
Don't forget , they are famous for their nuts...pasticho

Cape Sounion would be a good choice.

And i would also visit the stadium that was used for the 1896 olympics.
It´s an easy 10 minutes walk from Syntagma square.

And if you want to chill out with a drink among locals at night then try Psiri square.
much more local and nicer and cheaper than Plaka.

No but they are very close.

5 to 10 minutes by foot depending on how fast you walk.

    And both are worth visitng.

That would be a good idea.

And in my opinion there is no reason to visit Lycabettus.
It looks great from below, but there is little to see up there apart from the great view you allready have from Acropolis.

I don´t know where you will be staying in Athens, but many hotles have rooftop bars where you have really good sunrise view from.

In that case i would head for the sea for sunrise.
Athens is rather smoggy and you will most likely get a better sunrise from the sea.
