Visit Athens at December 31 & New Year's Day

I am scheduled to visit Athens at the end of this year. I heard that museums will be closed and many of services for the tourists may not be available at January 1 and afternoon of December 31. I will apprecite it very much if anyone can give me ideas to spend time in Athens at those days.
