Hi- we caught the X95 bus from the airport- stops at Syntagma Square, which is close to Plaka. I guess you will be tired, so take a taxi from Syntigma Square to your hotel, From memory the bus trip was about 40mins, A taxi from airport will cost about 55euros.

yes, X95 is the bus to Syntagma square and then you just walk down to Mitropoleos street for 400m, no need for taxi.

lynnehamman is wrong about the taxi price, since February 2011 there is a fix price from/to the airport to the city center. It will cost you 35 euros (including tolls/luggage etc). After midnight(till 5.00am) it costs 50euros.

You should get the Airport bus that goes as far as the Constitution square (SYNTAGMA) Get off at Syntagma and you can get to Plaka on foot. It is less than a 10 minute walk from there. Terminal buses are on the right hand side. The ticket costs 5Euros.

Athens Airport EXPRESS* Bus routes operated by ETHEL (Public Bus Company) connect directly the Athens (city center & greater area) and Piraeus (port) with the Athens International Airport (AIA) “Eleftherios Venizelos”. Service is provided on a non-stop basis seven days a week including holidays (24/7 operation). All buses disembark passengers at the Departures Level (inbound trips to airport) and depart from the Arrivals Level (outbound trips from airport). BUS tickets are sold at the info/ticket-kiosk (located outside the Arrivals between Exits 4 and 5), or onboard (ask operator) at no extra cost.

Oooooooh Mindcrime! my HUMBLEST apologies for quoting the wrong taxi fare!  But when we visited there was no fixed price. We hired a taxi to take us to airport from our Plaka hotel and it cost what I quoted,

If you take the Blue Line Airport Metro instead of the bus you can get off at the Monastiraki Metro Station and be closer to the Metropolis Hotel than if you take the bus to Syntagma Square.

The hotel is actually in between Syntagma and Monastiraki square, 350m from the bus stop at Syntagma, 450m from Monastiraki metro station (+the steps from the platform)

No bus, just take the blue line of Metro (not Proastiakos rail) from the airport and get off a Monastiraki Station. It is close to your final destination. Metro is faster than the bus. Metro ticket is 8 euros... Check also Acropolis Station from Google maps... It may be even closer to your hotel...
