Hi I realise this is a long shot but if you dont ask you dont reveive. Anyone have any details on these. Searching on the net one finds very little.
As i understand it you just follow a trail and enter in a log book which is located at the destination in a letterbox which also will contain a rubber stamp that you can stamp your passport or whatever for your record. The link down below relates a few letterbox walks. The island sounds real rugged and only for adventurers and nature lovers. rafactive.co.uk/e25/e25ashes... ascension-island.gov.ac/info... this site has an email address maybe you can enquire there. Also i know the tourist office sells maps according to another website. Seems you have to have permits and medical insurance if you visit the island.

Thanks Davidjo I hadn't come across your first link before. I'm heading there in early 2013 enroute from Australia to the UK (as you do). The most baffling bit seems to be how you get from brize norton RAF base to Oxford once you arrive in the UK ( other than taxi )!

There see about 20 or so of these walks details of which were published in a book which may be out of print though possibly available still at the Obsidien Hotel in Georgetown , the Capital. I'll flick them an email which remind me I need to get entry permit from the government .. The other link you provide.

Here's the info about onward travel from Brize Norton: raf.mod.uk/rafbrizenorton/pa... You might be lucky and be able to get on the bus. Otherwise, it's a taxi to Oxford.
