I'm planning a trip with my family - 2 adults, 2 teenagers - to start in Arnhem and bicycle the R1 Radweg for 2 weeks in the Spring 2012. Please let me know - Is it possible to hire bicycles in Arnhem for the trip, or should we ship our bikes (we're coming from Oregon, USA). We do a lot of cycling in Oregon, and have traveled quite and lived in Europe, but we haven't done a long cycling journey there. What should we expect? Thankyou for any help. PJ

There are bicycles for hire at Arnhem. Have a look at http://www.reerinkrijwielen.nl/verhuur/ (sorry, Dutch only). A hilly ride, so get bicycles we enough gears. To rent a bicycle: Count on a deposit of 50 Euro's per bicycle, a rent of 15 Euro's per day and bring valid ID. PJ

An extra cost of your itineray is the return of the bicycles to Arnhem. You can avoid that if you choose for a bicycle loop.
