Hiya,
We're planning to visit Iceland this summer and wondered if anyone was interested in joining us en route?
2 guys aged 31 & 34 y.o. from London, ideally looking for a fellow traveller or two to share the adventure, enjoy the trip, etc.
We will arrive on 18th Aug. and return on 27th Aug.(9 days in total) - flights booked already, i.e. not particularly flexible on dates...
We thought to rent a car and cruise around the island (along Ring Road) with reasonable budget, spending our last weekend in Reykjavik where I intend to run a marathon.
Haven't decided on exact locations / reserved our accommodation yet, so it's all up for discussion, I believe.
In a nutshell, we are easy going, friendly guys always keen on having fun on the way, open to the new ideas and enjoying other people's company.

When I went on one of my first trips I bought a purse for my little sister. Now it's a tradition that she gets a purse as a souvenir from whatever country I traveled to. It doesn't have to be designer or expensive (I would prefer that it isn't) but it does have to be pink. Sparkly is even better. (She just turned 13.) Are there any stores that would be good for me to try? I'm starting in Reykjavik and traveling east around the ring road and up through the West Fjords so anywhere along that route would be perfectly fine.

A group of six Will travel in Iceland for two weeks. Between us we need to exchange US dollars, British Pound, Japanese Yen and also Canadian Dollars.
Please advise where will be a good place to do this? Airport? Or some where in the town? Our first night will stay in capital.

I am a solo traveler heading to iceland in early July...will be there about 5 day. Any recommendations on area and places to stay?

Just back from 5 days in Iceland and I wanted to thanks forum members for all their tips. In the end we did:
Day 1: Reykjanes peninsula seeing lighthouses, bubbling smelly places at Gunnur's place & Seltun, then on to Vik for black sand and puffins (we saw 2 in Dyrholaey!!)
Day2: Glacier walk on Solheymajokull, Skogarfoss, Sajellafoss & hveragerdi
Day 3: the Golden Circle, Fontana baths & Pingvellir park
Day 4: Day excursion to an excellent lava cave & trek in Hengill area to hot spring river - walk around Rekjavik in the evening
Day 5: Blue Lagoon & flight back home.

I'm now back at work trying hard to look awake!

Hi everyone,

A friend of a friend has graciously allowed me to stay in their family home in the West Fjords and also allowed me to use a cell phone so I have something for the road. I'd like to bring something for them to say thank you when I get back to Reykjavik. Any suggestions?

Also, I met a woman in Reykjavik with a 10 year old daughter. Very friendly woman who has never been to the West Fjords. Is there something from that region that I can bring back for her and her daughter?

I am debating where to stay with my family for the last three nights of our 9 night trip to Iceland. As of right now we are leaving the Westfjords and driving (5.5 hrs) to a cottage near Geysir. Then driving from Geysir our last day (1.5 hrs) to KEF for our departure flight.
By this point in the trip we will have already seen Reykjavik and Westfjords. We want to see the main sights of the golden circle and possibly take a day trip to Vik with our last 3 days. Is staying near Geysir a good option? Or another option we have is staying at a cottage in the town of Stokkseyri. My family consists of my wife and I, and two kids: ages 5 and 2. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Even a totally different plan for those 3 days. Thanks!!

I am flying into Iceland in August, my plane arrives at 730 am to KEF airport. I would like to take a Viator tour which leaves from Reykjavik at 900 am. Do you think realistically this is enough time to get through customs and into Reykjavik so that I can catch my tour? I understand there are no guarantees but just wondering what's realistic to expect. I am flying in from another European country (Sweden). Thanks so much!

My husband and I, both in our early 60s, have 4 days in Reykjavik beginning July 19th. Any suggestions on day trips from Reykjavic? Is Jokulsarlon too far away for a day trip? I am a hobbyist photographer and we are looking for scenic routes and places.

Where do we purchase alcohol in Iceland?
