Would like to take an excursion from Toulon France to Arles to visit Van Gough sites. Our Cruise is in December 2013.
The ship arrives in Toulon at 9am departs 5pm.
Ideas for excursion would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You John
I am quite happy to walk around the town but where would be the best place to park (is it likely that there would be space at say 10am?
When are they this coming years? I have found two websites and both have different dates and both say subject to confirmation. When will they be held? I will be in Arles either April 19, 20 or 21, 2014
I am a tourist travelling from villefranche to Arles in the Fall of 2014. Is there any bus transportation is available? And how do I get schedule, costs, etc
Wher can I store my luggage during the day visiting in Ar
I bought a hand made porcelain wall hanging of a Provencal farandole woman dancer in a shop in Arles. I would like to buy more, but cannot find any on the Internet. Can anyone help me find this item. The "lady" is about 10" tall, hangs flat against the wall & came in various dress colors. There is a stamp in the porcelain on the back which is in a small ova, which reads:
L'Atelier des Cefel(?)(?)
Can anyone help me find more of these "farandole" ladies?
We were planning to take a train from Arles to Avignon and then the navette to the Avignon TGV station, but I noticed in Rick Steves that there is a direct SNCF bus to the Avignon TGV station. We would take that on the way back to Aix-en-Provence, so I think it would save a little time. I looked and saw that there is a bus station in Arles, as well as the train station, but then it dawned on me that Rick Steves didn't say where to catch the SNCF bus. Anyone know?
We will be taking a riverboat cruise in France in August and ending our trip in Arles. We would like to take a car service from Arles to the Nice airport. Our flight would be leaving Nice at 1:30pm.
What time would we have to leave Arles to make our connection and can you recommend a car service for the trip? There will be 4 adults with quite a bit of luggage.
My wife and I will be driving through southern Provence in mid-Sept. on our way to the Luberon. We will only have about 4 hours to stop in Arles at mid-day on a Saturday. We will be looking for a place to park for the afternoon and the only parking deck I could find in on the Blvd. des Lices, right in the middle of the Saturday market. Can any one suggest a safe place to leave our car for a few hours? Will we be able to see a few highlights of Arles in this amount of time? Thanks.
One more question for the very-helpful folks who know the area around Arles: When we leave Arles, we would like to drive through the Luberon area with no itinerary, stopping when the spirit (or the scenery) moves us. Is that possible in mid to late September, or will we risk sleeping in the car if we have no reservations at that time of year?
One of the things we'd like to do when we are in Arles in September is visit the Camargue. We will have a car. Does anyone know whether it is possible to make a self-guided tour to see the white horses, bulls, flamingos and other sights of that region? Some of the guided tours look a little pricey.
We will be traveling in Provence in September of 2012. We would like to use atm machines as a way to get Euros to spend. Are the machines plentiful in Provence? Our atm cards do not have chips. Will cards without chips work in France?
We will be arriving at the TVG train station in Avignon, from Paris, in September, about mid afternoon. We just found out that our hotel is near the other train station. Does a train run between the two stations? Can we take a local train from the TVG station to the other station, the one that is near the town center? Perhaps a bus?
My husband and I will be in Arles on June 30, July 1 and 2, I read that there would be some special activities that weekend with the bulls. How can we get tickets for the games? Are they available in advance online?
Thanks for any other information about events going on that weekend!
How can I get to Montmajour Abbey from Arles without car ?
Is it possible by public transport ? If no - how much will it cost by taxi ? And is it possible to find taxi near the Abbey to return to Arles ?
Hi! I will need to go from Arles to Montpellier, late afternoon. Is there a bus (autocar) or do I have to go back to Avignon ? Merci! Yvefrancesca
I'm trying to find some kind of programme to see if there will be bullfights at the Arenes de Arles when I go on a trip to Southern France in July-August. I understand there is also a type of bullfighting where they don't kill the bull also held at Arenes de Arles? Personally, I don't mind whether I see that or the real bullfighting.
So is there a website? Or set annual dates?
Does anyone know someone who gives French lessons for foreigners in Arles ?
I was at the Arles Market on Wed June 30th and bought a wonderful pair of sandals from a great sandal maker. Also very nice . He was right across from the spices - near the fruit and vegetables. I'd like to find him to get another pair of sandals.
what is the best (ie fastest) way to travel from the TGV station in Avignon to Arles France? my train arrives after the last tgv train from avignon to arles so i'm searching for an alternative.
I am planning to live in Arles for 2-3 months. Does anyone know a local website for renting just a room in private apartment or someone who is renting and what are the prices ?
I am in Marseille on business and would like to join a reputable and safe tour group from Marseille to Arles on June 12 or June 13, 2010. Can someone make a recommendation? Merci.
Hi, I'm a photographer and I'm planning to visit Arles within a month or two..
I would like some information about what to do (and see) there and where to stay.
Are there any cheap B&B?
Any kind of information will be usufull..
Hi all, I will be in the south of France for a few days during May and am wondering whether to stay at Nimes or Arles? I have stayed at Arles before and loved it and would like to go back, but Nimes looks good too. I will just be wandering around the Roman remains, shops, restaurants, markets, streets etc.
Nimes seems to be more focussed on bullfighting, from what I have discovered so far. Are there any major differences? Anybody been to both and have a strong preference?
I will have my own car and staying in the city centre so assume crime rate/driving exactly the same in both places.
So if anyone lives in the area or has spent time in both places it would be nice to have your thoughts.
I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how to get to the Avis car rental office in downtown Arles. Below is the address.
Garage Forum Automobiles
Avenue Des Arches Arles 13200 France
The rates with pickup here is quite cheaper than picking up the car at the Avis location at the train station.
Is there a bus that will get me here or is a taxi the only alternative.
If so, how much would a ride here from the train station cost.
Thanks for any help.
We are staying in Arles but won't have a car. Apart from using trains/buses and doing things by ourselves, which we will do, does anyone know if it is possible to arrange half-day or maybe day guided excursions from Arles by coach that might take in a few things in one go, e.g. St. Remy and Les Baux, or Pont du Gard,or other small, interesting places or vineyards? Don't want to go to the Camargue though as son has serious rare condition and sadly must keep away from spores in stagnant, marshy areas.
If you know the name of a company in Arles which arranges excursions we would love to hear about it. Many thanks.
We are arriving at Marseille airport and want to go to Arles where we shall be staying. Is a taxi very expensive? Is there a bus/coach direct from Marseille airport to Arles or must we go into the city to the station? Many thanks to anyone who knows the best method of travelling, if possible without going into city centre of Marseille.
The best train connection going to Milan leaves Arles at 5:08 a.m. We will be staying at the Hotel Regency which only a few blocks from the train station. My question is how do we get to the train station at 4:00 a.m.?
We are driving from Arles to Bergerac and are looking for a scenic route with villages to explore. We will have done the Dordogne on the first part of the trip and want to return by a different route. Carcasonne will be our last stop before Arles.
New travelers that need some info. We are trying to go from Arles to Aix-en-Provence without going thru Marseille by train. Any bus service between Arles and Aix and how often does it run?
