Where can I get a listing of Mastercard ATM's? HELP

by stardog2win Online Now Sep 4, 2006 at 1:17 PM

Want to be able to access cash from ATM
using Mastercard debit card. What fees would the
ATM itself charge and when I make a withdrawal
will it automatically be converted to
Euros?
Thanks. stardog2win

You didn't list your home country on your VT Home Page, so I have no idea where your card originates. We're from the US and had absolutely no problem finding ATMs in that area. We were staying near Canet Plage and traveled all over the area for a month using ATMs wherever we needed cash.

The ATMs do not charge a fee. Your own bank charges a fee. You need to call and ask what it is. If you can use your debit card, generally you will save money. In France all the ATMs we've seen give you a choice of languages. Your withdrawal will be in euros and your bank will convert it at their end. You just get the euros. (Your credit card company should give you a statement with both amounts on it.)

Be sure you know your PIN as a number because the French ATMs do not have letters on them. You should also call your credit card companies and tell them when you will be gone and where you will be. Often they refuse the card if it is from a (to them) strange place. Calling takes care of the problem. They should also give you a number to call in France in case your cards are lost or stolen. It is different from the number on the back of your card. It's a toll-free number for calling from France.

Take a couple credit or debit cards. Occasionally one of ours won't work and having a backup is very useful. Also the European cards have a special chip in them so the US cards are now a major nuisance to them. If your card won't work, tell them they need to swipe it (as opposed to sliding it into a slot to be read). Hopefully the US companies will come up with the new cards very soon!
