I would like to visit Ambronay Baroque Festival this year. I have never been in this region of France. So I have some practical questions:
What is the most practical accomodation (e.g.hotel or b&b) for this event, because I shall not have a car? And how can I get to the place by train from Swiss? Is it possible to be there without a car?

    • Day trips from Ajaccio

      Corsica May 11, 2015 at 2:42 PM

I will be in Ajaccio on 10, 11 and 12 June. I had planned to do day trips with Authentic Tours after reading rave reviews, but they are already booked out and my only hope is a cancellation. Most disappointing. Can anyone suggest another reliable company to take me on day trips? Is it possible to hire a private (safe) driver? I definitely want to go to Bonifacio, and was also considering Corte, and Piana and Scandola, but I'm open to suggestion. I don't want to drive myself. If I leave things until my arrival and just go to the tourist bureau, I'm worried I might miss out altogether. I'm happy to do train and boat trips too, as long as they are day trips from Ajaccio. Looking forward to hearing your suggestions.

    • 48hrs in Bordeaux - Wine tour, hotel and more

      Bordeaux Apr 13, 2015 at 7:52 AM

      Hi,

I'm planning a weekend (from Friday night to Sunday night) in May.

One of the things I'd definitely want to do is a Wine Tour. St Emilion seems to the most recommended choice both in terms of quality of wines and scenery. Now the main question would be whether it'd be worth doing a 1 day tour or just an afternoon one. What would you recommend? Also, small group or private?

As far as the hotel is concerned, I have short listed the Grand Hotel and the Burdigala. I would get a fairly similar package for either at a similar price. I quite like the contemporary look of the Burdigala, but the Grand Hotel seems quite iconic and I love the fact that they have a spa that we could use. Any advice?

Lastly, any other recommendations to make our 48 hours even more special?

      Chateaux tour by bike

      Bordeaux Mar 30, 2015 at 2:29 AM

      Bonjour!
Was wondering if someone could advise on the protocol surrounding chateaux visits by bicycle? We would like to spend one day cycling in either Pauillac or Saint-Émilion, perhaps visiting Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Gruaud-Larose and Château Lynch-Bages, or Château Figeac, Château Troplong Mondot and Château de Pressac.
Not sure what the dress code is when visiting these Chateau... Will they perceive it as disrespectful when arriving on a bicycle and dressed in jeans and short-sleeved shirt?
Any feedback would be highly appreciated!
      Merci!

      Hello travellers
I will be in Bordeaux for 3 days and wine is one of my top priorites. I have a few questions as i havent yet read anything about the wine tasting procedure there. I know that there are crazily expensive half day tours in Chateaux, but I wonder if this can be done low cost and independently. WHich chateaux would you recommend? Pommerol, St Emilion, Medoc where/? Do we have to book in advance or just show up? My trip will be in June, i suppose hi season...
One more question: could you indicate the highlights of the Dordogne itinerary from Sarlat la Caneda to Bordeaux?

Ophorus Tours from Sarlat - choices

      Sarlat-la-Canéda Apr 11, 2014 at 5:35 AM

My trip to France is coming up and I have time to make a few modifications. I signed up for a tour with this company from Sarlat for a 1/2 day tour to Rocamadour for 70euros, but I seem to be the only one on the tour so far and Ophorus specifies that if no one else goes on this tour, I must pay for another person (that's fine, i'm ok iwth it). However, I also wanted to see Collonges La Rouge and they offer a private tour (no minimum people) to Collonges la Rouge and Carennac for 280euros (but no Rocamadour). Or, for 380euros (yikes!), I can get a private tour of Collonges la Roughe, CArennac, Rocamadour, and Turenne. I'm a scenic photographer so Rocamadour and CLR really appeal to me but oh, that price! I can do 250euros but 380 seems excessive for an 8 hour tour BUT I will do it if it seems reasonable to those who have been there? Apparently, Ophorus is the only one that does tours in this area, so I'm limited in my options. So, if it comes down to it, would you suggest I do the whole thing, some of it, or stick with Rocamadour? I've kinda got an answer brewing in my head but I wanted some other opinions to hammer down my choice.
