Does anyone know of the ruins of a Roman town open to the public with cafe etc in the Nerac area. Visited the area last year with a friend but were unable to find it. Once back at base were able to find it's website online but cannot now remember what it is called and cannot seem to bring it up again no matter what search terms I use.

      Pau Oct 29, 2014 at 6:26 AM

I have an ancestor who died in Pau in 1860. I am planning a trip to stay in the area and also to obtain any documents I can regarding the death. There do not seem to be any records in the UK, even in deaths abroad. Are there any offices in Pau where I would be able to view/obtain any such documents for my genealogy research?
      Kind regards

      Bordeaux Oct 15, 2014 at 4:11 AM

I have four or five days I want to spend in south-west France next May. I am thinking of going to Bordeaux and/or Toulouse but would also like to visit a couple of villages that are not too far away and accessible by bus or train (preferably train) as I won't have a car. Any suggestions re accommodation and attractions not-to-be-missed would also be appreciated.

      Bergerac Aug 18, 2014 at 1:13 PM

A friend and I are taking a one week riverboat cruise starting 30/Sept and ending 06/Oct in Bordeaux, and would like to visit the Lascaux cave reproduction and possibly others in the area. Are there any one or two day tours from Bordeaux to the region? One of us will be coming from London and could fly directly to Bergerac. Are there tours from there, or possible a private guide to visit the area? Any advice will be appreciated.

    • Degustation and Dordogne

      Bordeaux Jun 1, 2014 at 12:05 AM

      Hello travellers
I will be in Bordeaux for 3 days and wine is one of my top priorites. I have a few questions as i havent yet read anything about the wine tasting procedure there. I know that there are crazily expensive half day tours in Chateaux, but I wonder if this can be done low cost and independently. WHich chateaux would you recommend? Pommerol, St Emilion, Medoc where/? Do we have to book in advance or just show up? My trip will be in June, i suppose hi season...
One more question: could you indicate the highlights of the Dordogne itinerary from Sarlat la Caneda to Bordeaux?
      Thank you!!

Does anyone know the name of the little pink tea/coffee shop on the way from the car park at the bottom of the hill leading up to centre ville? It's almost opposite it's sister shop which makes macaroons. I want to post a comment on Tripadvisor as it served the best 'chocolat' we have ever tasted.
      Merci.

Ophorus Tours from Sarlat - choices

      Sarlat-la-Canéda Apr 11, 2014 at 5:35 AM

My trip to France is coming up and I have time to make a few modifications. I signed up for a tour with this company from Sarlat for a 1/2 day tour to Rocamadour for 70euros, but I seem to be the only one on the tour so far and Ophorus specifies that if no one else goes on this tour, I must pay for another person (that's fine, i'm ok iwth it). However, I also wanted to see Collonges La Rouge and they offer a private tour (no minimum people) to Collonges la Rouge and Carennac for 280euros (but no Rocamadour). Or, for 380euros (yikes!), I can get a private tour of Collonges la Roughe, CArennac, Rocamadour, and Turenne. I'm a scenic photographer so Rocamadour and CLR really appeal to me but oh, that price! I can do 250euros but 380 seems excessive for an 8 hour tour BUT I will do it if it seems reasonable to those who have been there? Apparently, Ophorus is the only one that does tours in this area, so I'm limited in my options. So, if it comes down to it, would you suggest I do the whole thing, some of it, or stick with Rocamadour? I've kinda got an answer brewing in my head but I wanted some other opinions to hammer down my choice.
