Long Term Rental in Annecy

by cockrad Online Now Jan 28, 2010 at 11:10 AM

I have been offered a job a few KM outside Annecy which I am thinking over. I have a wife, 2 children and a dog so we would all be relocating from the UK. If we decide to do it I would want to rent first so would be looking for a 4 bed house with garden in the Annecy area. Can anyone recommend any good websites to see what the prices are like? Any help or advice very much appreciated!! Also, are there any international schools in the area? My children will be 6 and 3 in May.

As far as I know, there is no international school in Annecy. There are Lycée with international sections in Grenoble, in Ferney Voltaire (in France, just north to Geneva) and in Lyon but I do not know what exists for children 6 and 3. Why don’t you put them in a regular school? At that age, they catch the local language very fast, in a matter of weeks. You might ask to the “mairie” (http://www.annecy.fr/) or even better to the AVF (Accueil de Villes Françaises). This association is dedicated to the help of newcomers (not only foreigners) in Annecy (avf.annecy@orange.fr and http://www.avf.asso.fr). They should also be able to help you for your search of a house to rent.

We have several friends who have done this and they put their children in the local schools. At that age, they will learn the language easily . . . and put you to shame. Give them a year and you will have little translators at home. It's a wonderful opportunity for them. If you are in the UK, there is a wonderful magazine called "France" that has loads of real estate ads including rentals. Check your local news stand. They have two other mags about relocating to France that you may be able to find also. It has all kinds of great advice for moving from the UK to France. Good luck. What a terrific opportunity.
