Hi ppl, I am going on a business trip to Ankara in late January. I've read that it is very cold and that it snows a lot in winter. Since we have quite warm and mild weather I would like some advice on clothes, shoes and any needed equipment that I must take with me when visiting Turkey. Thanks for all your help :)
My Maltese "Friend" manage here in Finland very well with the cold (it is -10c today) Anyhow, obviously everyone understand that needed warm cloths, but often people forget to take hat, gloves, scarf and such additional items that help when it is cold. Also, good shoes with think sole is important and maybe woolen socks. PS: Leave your high heels at home unless you planning nightlife in the club and have s driver to take you there.

Greeting from My Ankara, It is rainning now local time 19.05. A cold, icy and thin rain. We call such rain here "Ahmak islatan" which means "only fools got wet" The nights are cold. The 1st snow drops in Ankara at Dec 27th. Januarry might be cold, snowy, rainy, dry or sunny under blue sky. Please bring your rainfest shooes and warm suits and sacco or rock. Dont forget you will not walking on the streets all day long while you are coming not a tourist but a tradeswoman. For that reason you will spend your most time indoors. have a nice time

As you are from a mild climate you will feel the chill more than those of us who are used to colder temperatures. It is important to realise that several thin layers are much warmer than one thick one. the air trapped between each layer insulates. So pack to dress in layers: thin undervest, t-shirt, bouse/shirt, sweatshirt/sweater or jacket plus warm waterproof outerwear. Scarf, hat and gloves are essential. Keeping extremities warm makes a big difference to conservation of body heat. Natural fibres (e.g. cotton/wool) warmer than manufactured fibres. Think carefully about your footwear too. Two pairs of thin socks (or thin socks over tights) are warmer than one thicker pair but you need space in your boots/shes to allow for this. Cramped toes and feet quickly et very cold (as well as being uncomfortable).

I have also done a business trip in mid-winter to both Istanbul and Ankara. What worked best for me was wearing a turtleneck under my black business pants-suit, which is a knit-blend and doesn't wrinkle. Then I wore my black mid-calf length hooded "raincoat," which has a zip-in fleece lining, so it acts like a winter coat. It doesn't wrinkle either. You can dress up the basic black suit with accessories, so that you don't look the same every day in the office. For shoes, I wore black boots with a sturdy Vibram sole that doesn't slip on snow or ice, but still looks somewhat fashionable, and one pair of low dress heels. I hope this helps, in addition to what the others have mentioned. Have a good trip!
