We are visiting Anaheim for a softball tournament. We are from the Midwest. Can you see mountains when you are in Anaheim? We will not have a bunch of time to drive to see scenery. Would like to know if there is any cool scenery close by?

Probably the best scenery you can see if driving near Anaheim is one of the beaches along the Pacific.

Yes beaches are great. But mountains are also awesome too. Take the 57 north about 30 mins. That gets you to the base of the san Gabriel mountains. Head up the 39 and go to the 2 Angeles crest hwy. These are tall mountains up to 8000 feet. The Angeles crest is high in the mountains and cool. I am always in the hills around Malibu, but am planning a test hike up there soon.

Visit the free Getty Center Museum. From the grounds you get great views of LA, the ocean and the mountains. If you drive, there is a reasonable charge for parking or just take the bus. Type Getty Center into the Search Window above to see what else is there. It's one of my favorite places in LA.

    Have a great trip.

If your schedule doesn't permit all this driving, trust me - you'll be able to see the mountains from Anaheim. Try taking a day to go to Disneyland - from the top of some of the taller rides you'll get an even better view of them but you don't even need to be up high to see them. They're mountains - they're big. You'll see them, don't worry:-) As for driving a short distance to see some nice scenery, just remember two street names: Katella is the southern edge of Disneyland. If you have Disneyland to your back, go down Katella to your right. You'll hit Beach Blvd. Turn left and follow that all the way to the beach. When you get to the coast, turn right again and you'll drive along the coastline in Huntington Beach. At the far end of it is Bolsa Chica - some lovely wetlands with birds and another great view of the mountains. One point to note - if you're going to be there in the summer, the mountains are sometimes harder to see then because when it gets real hot and there's little breeze, the smog can get bad, but the days when you can't see the mountains at all aren't too common.

Right now the scenery here is so nice. After rainy days, the sky is so clear to see teh mountains. One very scenic route somewhat close to Anaheim is going on Ortega Highway (Highway 74) to Lake Elsinore. Head south on the 5 fwy from Ana to the 74. It's very windy but if you are up for the adventure, ride it.
