We are spending the first day of our honeymoon in Amsterdam (a Tuesday, so hopefully not high contention for restaurants). We are probably not going to get a chance to do anything but drop off our baggage before we explore the city, so I'm looking for a romantic restaurant, ideally specific to Amsterdam in its nature (maybe with a view of the canals), that doesn't require being dressed up.
What's up Ari, a sudden wedding virus at VT, haha? Don't tell me you are posting in behalf of G. To come back to your question. A nice romatic restaurant at a canal will be an expensive one like the d'Vijff Vlieghen; see: members.virtualtourist.com/m... Van de Kaart; see: Van De Kaart: "Modern Dutch Cuisine at its best" - Van de Kaart - French restauarant Tip by zuriga If you are looking more for cozy real Dutch, I highly recommend: Eetkamer van de Jordaan; see: Eetkamer van de Jordaan: "At the Jordaan" - Eetkamer van de Jordaan Tip by pieter_jan_v Moeders; see: Moeders: "At Mothers restaurant" - Moeders Tip by pieter_jan_v If you want to be at the heart of the Red Light District, try: Blauw aan de Wal Blauw aan de Wal: "In the heart of the RLD" - Blauw aan de Wal Tip by pieter_jan_v One I haven't tried myself yet, but could be very interesting (located in a corner basement at a canal): De Struisvogel; see: De Struisvogel: "Basement restaurant at the Nine Little Streets" - Struisvogel Tip by pieter_jan_v Not really Dutch, but an Italian with a long history: Casa di David Casa di David: "Great Italian restaurant at the Singel canal" - Casa Di David Tip by pieter_jan_v More low level (pub like), but genuine Dutch with a view over the Amstel river: Cafe 't Hooischip; see: 't Hooischip: "Café at the Stopera" - 't Hooischip - Café Tip by pieter_jan_v Have fun and enjoy Amsterdam. PJ, I have been to the Struisvogel ( The Ostrich.) It is a few years ago but I remember it being quite nice. Not expensive. And on the small side so not good for big groups. They actually have ostrich on the menu.

I have passed the Struisvogel a couple of times. Maybe for a next Amsterdam meet? (2 tables of 4 is what we mostly need over the last meetings). PJ
