hey, i might have a 2 to 4 hr stay in amsterdam on my way to helsinki , end of august as i am travelling via KLM.... any suggestions about what i can or should do ?? saalsa
I really don't think 4 hours is much time to get from the airport to the city center, sightsee, go back to the airport, and then wait in line at security, etc. Two hours are even worse. These are my opinions solely. And I would not want to take a chance of missing my flight-especially not these days.

I agree with Calsf, 4 hours is not enough time to get out of the airport and do something in amsterdam, I remember I had similar kind of connection through KLM while going to US and I had a 5 hour stop over. All what I did was that I explored Schiphol airport and its duty free and did some shopping. Secondly, You will be quite tired too after 6-7 hours of flight, and there is no fun in exploring a city with a tired mind and body. Other option would be to take the next flight of KLM from amsterdam to helsinki, in that way you will have some time. HTH

There will be plenty to see and do at Schiphol airport though. The Rijksmuseum has a place here with some Dutch masters on show(free entry) And you could go to the Tourist information desk and plan your next sightseeing visit to The Netherlands ahead of time! Have a look at www.schiphol.nl (click the English version)

Well, I would definately take the risk. You need to be back at least 1 hour before. The train from Schiphol to center is less than 20 min, so you'll have time to walk a bit in the city and then hit back to the airport.
