I arrive in Amman at 5:30pm on a Tuesday and am wondering if there is enough time to get a taxi and then pay for the VIP crossing service to cross the border at King Hussein before the border closing time or if I will need to make hotel arrangements and travel Wednesday morning. Does anyone have any recommendations? I am trying to travel from Amman to Bethlehem. Thanks for any advice!

by bethreymatias Online Now Jul 16, 2012 at 7:11 PM

Is it correct that on Saturdays, most if not all shops are closed in Jerusalem? Buses and taxis as means of transportation do not operate on these days? Does that mean the entrance to Holy Land is closed on a Saturday? Thanks for any information and advise.

    • are hotels/hostels in Jerusalem too far after crossing the bridge?

by bethreymatias Online Now Jul 15, 2012 at 2:21 PM

I will be in Amman in September and have plans of going to Jerusalem. It will be Rosh Hashanah then. Is it advisable to cross the bridge on September 15 after lunch so I won't be affected with the start of Rosh Hashanah on the 16th? I read somewhere it takes at least 5 hours to get to Jerusalem by bus because of security checks. If we do cross the King Hussein bridge immediately after lunch on Sept. 15 and it takes at least 5 hrs to be in Jerusalem, are the hotels/hostels nearby? or we need to get a taxi to get to town? We just want to see the holy places--Mt. Olives, Dome of the Rock, etc. And, is crossing the bridge a lot more difficult after lunch? That would be on Sept 15. Thanks so much for your assistance. Salamat! Beth

We will be in Amman on September for a convention. Will the King Hussein Bridge be open during Rosh Hashana from Sept 16-19? Or will it be open in the morning only? Will it be a very busy time at the border then? Will it be ok to travel from Amman to Jerusalem during this period? Thank you in advance.

by janetlee Online Now May 1, 2012 at 6:58 AM

I will arrive at Amman airport at 23:40. I will rent a car to travel around Jordan. However, I am not sure whether I should take the car during midnight after our arrival at Amman (in which case we need to drive to a hotel to stay). Will it be unsafe or difficult to find the way to the hotel (not an expensive one) at midnight? Any suggestion of hotel easy to be found (at Mahaba or other places)? As we will stay in Jordan for 3 days only, we intend to leave most of luggages in the hotel and pick them up on our return before going to the airport. Any comment and recommendation is much appreciated.

by bust Online Now Feb 2, 2011 at 1:28 PM

Hi, I desperately need some help in putting together an itinery for a week long visit to Jordon in May. We will arrive May 3rd and depart May 10th. We would like to visit Damascus and Jerusalem staying overnight in each. We did want to visit Petra, however the entrance fees are extremely high and not sure if our budget will stretch that far, although this will be determined by the cost of visas and other travel etc. Should we hire a local driver for excursions locally and can we go through a local tour company to avoid visa fees? We would like to stay in downtown Amman because this appears to be close to local historic sites which we can get to on foot. Any suggestions on a comfortable and reasonably priced (max £50 per night inc taxes and breakfast)3 or 4* hotel would be welcome. Similarly any suggestions for Damascus and Jerusalem would also be appreciated. In terms of the Itinery, what visas will I need and would I be better off getting them in the UK? What are the approx costs? What is the best order for my visits. Please note, I do not wish my passport to be stamped when entering or exiting Israel. Thank you

      Advice on a 5:30am flight

by nycgem28 Online Now Jan 3, 2011 at 9:25 PM

Happy New Year, Travelers. Returning to Amman after 2 days in Petra to catch a 5:10am flight to Cairo. Probably taking the JETT bus to Amman, arriving around 8pm. After having dinner, it barely makes sense to find a hotel for the few hours before the flight. Will the airport allow us to stay for the few hours? Another option is to stay for the Petra At Night and then negotiate for a taxi ride from Petra to Amman. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks.
