Travel from Paris CDG to Amboise

by LetsGoToo Online Now Aug 9, 2011 at 9:06 PM

We'd like to have some help planning our trip from CDG airport to Amboise where we are renting an apt. Understand best train connection may be from Gare Austerlitz. What is best way to get from Airport to Austerlitz train station?

You can get the TGV directly from CDG and make a transfer to get to Amboise. However, it is much less expensive to take the regular train from Gare d'Austerlitz.

It's easy to get there. Leave CDG on the RER-B line and go to Gare du Nord. Then change to Metro Line #5 in the direction of Place d'Italie and get off at Gare d'Aussterlitz (about the 7th stop but it's well marked). You do all this on one ticket. There are other alternatives but this is fairly easy. You can check other routes at ratp.fr/itineraires/en/ratp/...

BTW, are you renting a car in Amboise? The city of Amboise is lovely but the surrounding countryside is a dreamscape that you won't want to miss. You will be right in the middle of chateau country with literally dozens of chateaus, abbeys, quaint villages and rivers to visit. Just curious.

Have a wonderful time. Amboise is a really nice town, lots to do and great walks and views along the river.

I would suggest riding the TGV directly from CDG.

That is how we got to the Loire Valley when we visited in 2008. There is no need to take the RER into Paris. You are on vacation, relax, enjoy. Carting luggage up and down stairs, catching trains here and there is not relaxing.

An international flight will arrive at CDG Terminal 2; the TGV station is within that terminal. It is possible to buy your ticket on the spot. There is no need for advance purchases, especially riding 2nd class.

The TGV arrives at Saint-Pierre-des-Corps, a suburb of Tours, a large town in the Loire Valley. You can make a connection to other trains or rent a car (highly recommended in the Loire Valley) at the Saint-Pierre-des-Corps station. Do reserve the car ahead of time.

Thanks to both of you for such detailed information which will be very helpful. We will not rent a car for our entire stay in Amboise as we want to get immersed in the village, however understand there ate rental agencies where we can reserve a car for a few days to see the countryside.
