were looking to hire a campervan in March 2007 bet 4t & 14th and want to travel from Alice Springs to Cairns. We would like to do Uluru as well.
Can you let me know
1) Is this route possible in the time given
2) Will the roads be passable
3) The best places and length of time to stop.
I,ve read some of the other posts and got some ideas already but ANY ideas will be welcome.
It's possible but still fairly tight, especially if you're expecting to see a few things along the way. March isn't very predictable when you're heading north. The most frequent problem is the Georgina River near Camooweal, but generally the area between the NT border and Mt Isa can be tricky. Along the coast heading to Cairns there's quite a few rivers that can flood. These can be by-passed by taking the road north from Hughenden up through The Lynd. But March there's often a lot of rain around right across the north.
