My husband and I are interested in doing a 5 day canoe trip. Looking at the official canoe map, we have picked four access points: 1)Lake Opeonago and environs; 2) Grand Lake - Achray; 3) Galeairy - Whitney; and 4) Shall Lake. We are curious if people would rate one of these areas as more scenic and less traveled.
The last time I did an Algonquin Canoe route was a horrendous number of years ago, and we started from Canoe Lake and headed south and looped back up to Canoe Lake. I think we did it in 5 days. It was with a group of campers from a camp on Canoe Lake. I just remember one horrendously long portage, but that goes back well over 30 yrs ago, so my memory could be flawed. The park is gorgeous, so enjoy yourself whatever route you take.
