Bicycling without a guide in Algeria

by Skygod23 Online Now Jul 24, 2009 at 7:02 AM

We are going two months bicycling in Algeria. I would appreciate to hear from anyone been there recently, because we are not sure if the police would let us travel on our own without a car and a guide.
How can we let go of that?

Aleks

Welcome to Algeria , I am algerian citizen and traveler too ..i live in Alger capital of Algeria ..
for answer your question , I know that it is possible to bike in north Algeria without guide ..and i know that you need to have guide in some part of the desert ..because it is desert ..
There are some check points in desert roads, and police can ask you about guide ..to let you continue crossing ..they need know about your destination too and all infos ..it is for your safety ... our desert is big like an ocean ..
it depends wich parts of the desert you go ..
Bechar, Taghit Timimoun in west is great ...Tamanrasset is other part of desert, like a moon ..
anyway, do not hesitate to contact if you need more infos .
