Do I need a guide to visit Algeria now? And what about bringing my motorcycle?

Hello, Do I need a guide to visit Algeria now? I read that somewhere, but believe it is only in the far south around the border crossing with Mali. I have been planning to travel through Algeria on motorcycle and was concerned that they re-instituted the guide policy throughout the country. Also, does anyone know about potential problems with bringing my motorcycle by ferry from Europe? Thanks, Matt
