My parents and I are coming from Tangier to travel Isla Canela. We were hoping to take the ferry on foot from Tangier to southern Spain and then rent a car. Which port is the best to arrive in for quick arrival and easy car rental? Thanks for any tips.
Hi, From Tangiers you can cross to Algeciras and Tarifa, both in Spain. If you are travelling northwest (Isla Canela) afterwards, TARIFA will be closer and you can easily find a car rental there. Tarifa is smaller than Algeciaras and more handy. Joaquin

Hi again, I have been thinking about it and if you go direct to Isla Canela (Huelva) you better take the highway to JEREZ and there another highway to SEVILLA and from there to HUELVA. So it would be better to cross to ALGECIRAS as it's closer to the 1st highway. In Algeciras, as you go out of the ferry terminal you have a Hertz Rent a Car just crossing the street and heading right, about 200 m: Avenida Virgen del Carmen, 23 11201 Algeciras 956 66 83 25 If you don't go in peak season there is not really much need of in advance reservation.

Definitely Algeciras port is best for finding a rental car. Also good idea to book in advance but look at available opening times for collection. If you are booking a one way where will you eventually drop off ? If in Algarve (maybe Faro) Portugal then not really possible. If Seville then consider taking a bus from Algeciras to Seville using LINESUR ? Then take a hire car once in Seville. But a lot depends on your plans for after Isla Canela.
