We fly into Oslo and have about 12 days to spend in Norway. We will be staying in the Innfjorden area for about a week, exploring some family connections and taking day trips from there. I'm wondering about getting there and back from Oslo. We have time to see other areas like Bergen and I'm trying to figure out if we should fly, train or drive from Oslo. It looks to be significantly more expensive to drop a rental car off in a different location from the pick-up. We will have a car in the Innfjorden area but I'm wondering whether we should drive from Olso or train to Bergen and fly or drive from there. I'm open to suggestions. We fly out of Oslo at the end of our vacation. Thanks for you help.
I would suggest you go from Oslo to Åndalsnes by train - Innfjorden is not far from the train station and if you have relatives there, they might be able to pick you up! A trip to the Geiranger-area is a must - do a search online! You could then go by bus to Ålseund and explore that city (beautiful Jugend-city) and get the Hurtigruten (leaves at midnight) down to Bergen (arrives 2.30 pm the following day). If you want to stay the night in Ålesund, I would check out http://www.brosundet.no/ - reasonable rates and very nice, right in teh historic centre. In order to get back to Oslo from Bergen, the train is a really good choice - either overnight or even better, check out http://www.norwaynutshell.com/ - it will take you by train, bus, boat and train through some amazing landscape. All our overseas guests who've done this trip have been really happy they did! Enjoy your holiday!

You could check my tips for Norway transportation tips, there you have links to search for bus, train and flights in Norway and can try to do searches to check times and prices for different alternatives.
