Paraiso is less than half a mile from the 'strip' which you will have heard of as you have been here before. That's half a mile of bars, clubs and discos mainly for tourists. You will find everything there I am sure. There are bound to be Karaoke evenings.

The old town is about half a mile in the other direction. There are plenty of music bars etc down there as well. It's a bit less of a frantic area than the strip but fun nevertheless. It's also the nearest beach.

Prices in the normal bars for beer won't be much less than an average of £2,50 a pint equivalent. Some places charge €3 for a 40cl glass (that's the 'large beer' or 'caneca' so that's the best part of €4 a pint, or about £3.50. For spirits plus mixer expect to pay €4 or €5 but the spirit measure should be at least double the stingy UK amount you get. Cocktails from €5 to €15. Everywhere should have a price list on display so there should be no nasty shocks.

Obviously clubs will charge more and beware that some music venues put up their prices after a certain hour. There might be an entrance charge to include a first drink. This is to deter those who would otherwise spend all night with one bottle of water.

Well, 41,000 people live in and around Albufeira so even if there wasn't a single tourist there would be people out and about in the evenings.

Late June is a little before the main family tourist season starts, but it is a popular time (because it's cheaper) for those who perhaps who have just finished Uni or college. We also get people from the Scandinavian countries whose summer holidays start a bit earlier plus those without school age children of course.

Hi, just scrolling through these forums. My friend an I are 19 and have just booked to come to Albuferia on the 25th July. From speaking to people it should be lively by then with young people.

Yes, by the end of June it will be pretty busy but without all the families. Portuguese schools break up for summer on 30th June, so it's the last few days of busy but relative calm before the hordes descend.

Not forgetting as I said earlier than 41,000 people live in and around Albufeira and they will be on the beach and in the cafés at weekends and once school is done for the day during the week. Which is 2pm for most!

The music bars are already open for business and fairly busy.

Meanwhile us miserable old ex-pat ***s lurk in the corners of dimly lit establishments, moaning into our beer about the price of things, government incompetence, the incompetence of any England sports team, the weather and all the other topics that keep the world turning.
