We want to book this excursion next june but we can't find any review on this daytrip from Viator.
We love iternary and would like to book but only Viator offers this excursion and we think it's a bit weird that we can't find any reviews.
I spent a week in Juneau three years ago. I have not heard of the tour. It appears that Viator specializes in doing shore excursions for some of the ships that dock in Juneau. They appear to be a large company that conducts tours all over. Nothing wrong with that per se but it usually involves contracting with a local group to conduct the tour with them. Given its title I would suspect that they will take you by van over to the Mendenhall Glacier, a trip on a boat to see some whales and maybe some bears near shore, as well as a helicopter tour on the surrounding area. The helicopter tours, weather permitting, are a exciting and popular way to see parts of the area you cannot easily see via a ship. However because of the fog and rain a good many of the trips are either cancelled or hard to see a lot given limited visibility from the air.
Personally one of the more special things we did when we flew to Juneau was go whale watching and sightseeing along the Tracy Arm Fjord and Sawyer Glacier. This of course would be alll by water, excluding the air, and minimizing the land package. The scenery was spectacular and the cost of the day trip was more reasonable than a combined helicopter and boat trip. The name of the company was Allen Marine Tours, a local Alaska family business. Cheaper to book directly with them and here is there link;
We also took a four hour whale watching tour on the other side of the island from Juneau but it was a bigger boat and we had to keep our distance from the whales. Also saw a lot of bears on the tour as well as just walking on one of the trails near the Mendenhall Glacier.
Thanks for your help.
We are on a cruise just because we need transportation from Seward to Vancouver Island. We hope to be able to avoid the big mass. After reading your advise we won't make a reservation and wait so we know what weather we will ahve and make a decison based on the visibility.
