April Vacation

by kellybum Online Now Sep 7, 2010 at 12:03 PM

Thinking of New Orleans and Gulf Shores next April. Can anyone give me any advice re weather, accommodation etc please? We may have to change in Atlanta coming from the UK so is Atlanta worth a 3 night stay? Many thanks

The weather in NO and the Gulf coast is great in April, but not exactly swimming weather, unless you are a Polar Bear Club member :) some people do get in the water but most don't. I live in Atlanta and wouldn't recommend planning 3 nights here, but that depends entirely on your interests and preferences.

I agree---from Marietta, an Atlanta suburb---but a day or 2 if you have not been here can be real fun----Atl has a big nite-time scene (which I am not really a part of anymore---give me Devo, Talking Heads and B52's at the Agora in the 90's!!!) April will be great in Atlanta for touring West Paces Ferry homes with fancy spring flowers or visiting Stone Mountain at night with the laser shows----there's tons to do in ATL---the Dogwood Festival should be coming up soon at Peidmont Park as well.... dustmon

Your question is really regarding the Atlanta stay, but I thought I'd add my two cents regarding Gulf Shores accommodations. The place my (then) husband and I liked best has now been turned into a rental condo facility. It is called The Beach Club and I liked it because it had a lot of amenities, including a lovely large heated pool -- even in June, the Gulf waters were a little too chilly for me. We were staying by the week, and you'd likely want to spend more time in New Orleans (which, at about 150 miles away, isn't an easy day trip). But it's a decent choice.

Atlanta is boring and is quoted by others who lived there, but there is things to do like baseball season starts in April, there is Coca cola vile and of course the southern charm and hospitality. I would shorten the stay and move on to NO and the shores. Weather is springtime and I believe that you will have a good time furter south in Louisana, baiyou country. Great seafood bought in from outside thanks to BP. Good music venues all the time. Cheers Tommy x

I live in Atlanta too and have to put in a good word. Maybe not 3 nights but a lot depends on your interests. In April baseball season will be started if you want to see a Braves game. TI am not a basketball fan but they will probably be playing then as well. There is also the Martin Luther King, Jr. site, a very nice Botanical Garden, the Carter Center and Library and Stone Mountain. Our art museum doesn't compare with a lot in Europe but has some really good special exhibits most of the time. If you are interested in any of these things, we can provide more details.

Have a look at viewamerica.net/html/en-stat... and skip to the Atlanta part. There is Underground Atlanta, CNN, Coca Cola, Stone Mountain Park, and Gone With The Wind museums... Have fun ! Paul
