Hi there everyone... I have booked a trip to Airlie beach over NYE 2009/2010, with my boyfriend and another couple and am wondering if anyone knows WHATS HAPPENING UP THERE over NYE & that period??? Also any ideas or names of some good clean, cheap, fun activities or tours in the area (Airlie/Islands/Reefs)??? Cheers!
I was up that way in December last year. Many of the back-packer places will have things happening, music, bands etc. Many of the islands also have stand-by rates if you can wait for last minute bargains. A nice family activity was carols in the park, but this was early December. One of the larger backpacker establishments: www.magnums.com.au

Be certain of one thing- Airlie will be a fun place over the festive season. So many younger folks, backpackers and even families at Airlie. The snorkelling is great, and as Betska suggests- maybe an island stay. It is not necessary to do special tours- they are costly. Just wing it, you will have a great time.Visit the tourist office at Airlie and pick up some brochures for free.
