Gay life in Agadir

by haendelmania Online Now May 3, 2010 at 10:54 AM

Are there some gayfriendly places - bars, restaurants, clubs, disco...? Is it safe to meet local gays?

Depends on what you mean by safe??? In muslim countries homosexuality is still illegal and many an expat has been extradited for various reasons. At the same time of course homosexuality exists whether people or cultures want to accept this or not. What goes on behind closed doors nobody knows, esp in the privacy of riads, but i can not recommend it. There is a problem of younger boys prostituting themselves and I simply can't encourage this one way or another.
search the web and you might find some sites more relevant to the topic.

I totally agree/second with Cabeyps answer here - especially in a country with a lot of the population who look for every chance they can get to make a living, with enticing young boys who succumb to another way to make some money.

    Topic covers both genders:
Tourism fuels prostitution and Agadir is no exception. Two years ago I would be approached by one girl in the 2 weeks I was there; last year they are out and about everywhere in the evenings.
I was approached by a young boy who immediately held my hand so I told him where to go strongly as he clutched on to me. I'm not gay nor do I pick up loose girls, however I will chat to the girls as they are more in need of cash for things like topping up mobile phone, make up, nice clothes etc than a quickie.
There are no gay frinendly pubs or clubs and local boys/girls are not allowed into tourist hotels and are stopped by security at the doors, no amount of backhanders will persuade them to do otherwise as they will lose their job and the hotel may well lose their license.
Some nightclubs (Papagayo, Mabrouk) allow girls to ply their trade but as one will not "get anywhere" then this just serves to increas the profits for the clubs and bars, and girls/boys who will get commission.
If you have a rented apartment with no concierge at the door then this is a different matter altogether as the above rules do not apply...............

I agree with what have been said so far, I was just lazy to type all that :-))
I'd also like to pick up exactly where john finished. Even if you rent an apartment you'll have to be careful, the neighbor will not tolerate this non sense of prostitutes (male or female) coming up and down in there building.

The daily news paper is full of news about Europeans and Gulf Arabs that are seeking prostitutes. The police raid these apartments all the time. If you get busted, you have no sympathy from your embassy or from the local

Actually there are lots of prostitutes and little problems there for them - a part of Moroccan life for many years - I know a number of Moroccan guys in gay relationships with europeans as well - just as there are many unmarried and married Moroccans in heterosexual relationships with european women which is just as illegal as far as staying in hotels together is concerned - all which still goes on around the country without a major amount of difficulty - just that those in the know know how to get around this. There are numerous hotels where this goes on and therefore Moroccans are not automatically stopped from entering if seen with an obvious gay partner or unmarried female partner - its a case of knowing where these places do allow it.

But I think it is totally unfair to take opportunity to influence young boys or girls, underage or homosexually for ones own desires just because one has the money to do it.

True there has been a big case recently - but I dont agree with the statement that the news is full of this happening but a recent big finding that caused a lot of sensation and publicity and more clamping down on who is where with who - of Saudi Arabian men busted by police in an apartment in Casablanca I think it was with underage Moroccan girls.

    Angela
Last time I was in Morocco in 2009. It was very prominent and extensively covered in Morocco's Arabic News paper. Things could have changed in 2010. I remember that they even busted a child pornography ring in Marrakesh.

These things happen every where in the world, I see no reason to single out Morocco.

As for the original poster, It is important for him to realize that this is ILLEGAL in Morocco and (his/her/mine/your) stands on gay rights are irrelevant.

isnt it funny how sexuality should be the freest thing in life but because of the ***ed up heads of humanity all these rules and restrictions are in place. if 2 people wanna *** each other they should be allowed to do it. speaking of ***ed, humanity truly is with all its illegalities and judgements on something the universe has given to us freely.
