I'm a 28 year old American guy on a world tour on my bicycle. I'm looking for someone who is interested in bicycling through Africa with me as I think there might be a little more safety if there is more than one of me. I'm an experienced cycler and traveler although I am just beginning to combine the two into one activity. So far it has been great. I'll be in Europe by mid 2013 and will be looking to head south into Africa (down either the east or west coast) around then. Id like to do the reverse on the way back up. You can check out my blog http://freelifebybike.wordpress.com or email freelifebybike@gmail.com to learn more about me. Looking forward to hearing from anyone!
Good luck mate. I am off to go cycling through South East Asia myself later this month.

Hello there and welcome to VT. I am far too old and unfit to undertake such a thing but there are a few hardcore cycling "road legends" on this site and you have already been answered by one of them. I hope you mange to pick up a travel buddy and best of luck with what sounds like a superb trip. I have bookmarked your blog, I love cycling blogs. You might want to check out VT member travelinxs who has just done UK to New Zealand. I know he has cycled Africa before so he may be able to offer some assistance.

Hi, as for me, I am not completely good at cycling, but I know two men in Russia who have been dreaming of going through out the world on bicycle, I have sent your message to them and the link to your blog, who knows, probably you will find each other and be companions. Good luck to your trip, anyway)

Hi mate... you could try putting an ad in the Classified section of crazyguyonabike.com under 'Companions'. Many cyclists on long haul trips advertise there for cycle companions. If you want to pick up any advise you could contact a mate of mine, Nando, through his web page Gambada.com - he's cycling through Columbia at the moment but spent 5 years cycling in Africa (down the east up the west) and is the most experienced African cyclist I've ever know of. Great bloke too. Just a thought... I'd prefer to go down the east and back up the west myself if only cause the east is more straightforward and helps get one used to being in Africa and the west is a bit unpredictable (Ive recently read that Mali is running into trouble and a mate of mine driving a Landrover up the west had to turn back in the DRC a couple of months ago after hassle with red tape and obstructive officials). It would be tragic to miss out on so much of Africa after not being able to get down through the west side. Just my 2c. Good luck.
