My daughter and I are going to Addis Ababa Ethiopia Jan/08/09 to pick up her newly adopted daughter. I am getting all the recommended immunizations except the yellow fever because of a possible allergic reaction due to the fact I am allergic to eggs. My question is --is this shot required or just a recommendation? We are staying in an American run guest house and will not be in any rural areas.I have been getting different info on the yellow fever immunization shot. Any other recommendations on the city would be appreciated.
I've just done a speedy check with various sites and the concensus seems to be: Yellow fever immunisation is RECOMMENDED. However, it is REQUIRED for all those over 1 year of age if you are coming from an area that is infected.

Hi,when I was visiting Addis it was a must to have the yellow fever immunization. There has been a special controll for it.But it is now several years ago that I have visited Addis.I have been recently in the Congo and without Yellow fever immunization I could not have entered the country. Other than that Addis is quite secure because of the altidude.(No malaria for example) Regards Herwig

It looks like you might not need to have the injection, see:- who.int/vaccines/en/yellowfe...

Hi, Just returned from Addis and have flown in to Addis 10 times in less than 2 years. No need for the Yellow Fever at all. They don't check and Addis does not suffer from it. You have to really go looking for Yellow Fever areas, large cities do not have the issue. Have a great time, All the best, DAO
