Need clarification about Abu Dhabi..

by alroubaiai Online Now Oct 1, 2005 at 1:00 AM

If someone can help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated...

I am awaiting my work permit to work in Abu Dhabi and I was wondering what my duty allowance when I enter Abu Dhabi is.. also, do I have to buy everything from my connecting flight? or will I be able to purchase tobacco when I land in Abu Dhabi??

Also, my fiancee from Canada will want to join me after a few months of being there, will that be a problem with my company if she will be responsible for ALL her costs to get to Abu Dhabi and when living in Abu Dhabi??

Are there enough health clubs in Abu Dhabi and are the monthly memberships expensive?? Also, does anyone know if there are any 'basketball' gyms in the the city, indoor maybe??

Everyone is warning against men wearing shorts in Abu Dhabi, even if the shorts go WELL below the knees too?? I'm accustomed to wearing 'long' shorts, will that pose any type of problem with being there in general walking around in malls, or jogging/rollerblading on the corniche??

I have been trying to be the first to answer these questions that has been posted for over a year or two. So far I have gone back as far as 2006. So I am putting together a general answer if we do not know by now, the answer is mute and the future has caught up with the past. I hope to earn guru badges and well as expert badges as I move up in the ranks of my efforts to get rid of all questions to be answer. hope this is a good thing for you and yours and thank you for your reply and tips as I will pursuit this work for a better rating in VT.

cheers tommy x and thanks for the tip
