Europe ITALY OR ANDORRA, stuck on where to go this winter season?
Posted: Sat September 6, 2008 05:17 PM UTC
2006/2007 my boyfriend and I worked a winter season in Andorra, pas de la casa. We had a great time even though the snow wasnt that great neither of us had ever been to a ski resort before so had nothing to compare it to. I did bar work and he did security.
This winter we are dying to get back to the snow but cant decide where!!
We are currently working in Ibiza so we do like to have a party which is one of the reasons we liked pas.
WE loved Andorra but cant help thinking we should try somewhere new. But i don´t know much about where else to go?
We have possibilities of jobs in pas or in sauze in Italy, and would like to know if anyone has been to these places their thoughts and opinions on each and which one they would recommend and why? Also what are the prices like in Sauze?
Or are we looking in the wrong direction altogether?
Has someone worked in a ski resort that they would like to recomend?
Also we kind of like the idea that at the end of the season we could travel down through Italy what would it be like at his time of year (april/may)?
What would the costs of travel and accomodation? And is this something that would be recomended?
Lots of qustions I know but any help would be greaty appreaciated.

thanks x

Brugge List of B & Bs
Posted: Sat September 6, 2008 04:46 PM UTC
My wife and I, as well as another couple will be visiting Brugge in the first part of October. Being that we are not sure on our dates and it is starting to head into the off season we are planning on not pre booking accomidations. I am wondering if anyone has a good list B&Bs a person can call upon arrival? I know that in many other parts of Europe if you go to the local tourist office they will help find you a place. Is that a possibility for Brugge? Bottom line is any advice on the best way to track down a B&B on arrival would be appreciated.

Thanks

France Malicorne sur Sarthe, Pays de Loire
Posted: Sat September 6, 2008 04:02 PM UTC
Trying to assess this as a holiday destination for a family of nine [2 kids included] and whether it is feasible to get from Newcastle upon Tyne by air or train.

Looking at the various options [or lack thereof trying to use Network Rail journey planner] I can't get further than Le Mans by rail or Rennes by air [assuming the schedule will allow]

Has anyone been to this place and, if so, is a car inevitable?

Luhansk Advice required on train numbers to/from Kiev to Luhansk
Posted: Sat September 6, 2008 03:21 PM UTC
Hi,

Planning a visit to Luhansk on 29 December 2008 till Sunday 11 January 2009. Arriving at Kiev then overnight train to Luhansk. On the detail of train numbers I think I need to use the 020 service. However with looking on this forum of trains leaving Luhansk another train number popped up.

Could someone advise please on which trains and times will meet the above dates?

Once this is sorted, ticket booking will be required. If anyone knows of a good travel ticket booking service I would like this information too.

Thanks!

Barbate de Franco The Franco name is disappearing
Posted: Sat September 6, 2008 01:32 PM UTC
The present government of Spain has decreed that references to Franco should be expunged. The town already dropped the "de Franco" over 10 years back. Now in 2008 street names that have some connection to the long gone Generalissimo such as La avenida del Generalísimo are being renamed. That one is called Avenida del Mar. Much more innocuous.
This move by the socialist government is performed under their Law of Historical Memory - la Ley de Memoria Histórica.

Madrid Wonderful Cookies called "Tejas"?
Posted: Sat September 6, 2008 12:43 PM UTC
While in Madrid my husband found these flat cookies at every corner bakery and couldn't get enough of them. They're called "tejas". I've searched everywhere for a recipe for them and have come up empty. Anyone know how to make them? Or where I can order some on line? Ever since coming home, he can't stop talking about this delicious little cookie! Thanks

Kiev Imminent trip to Kiev - nightlife
Posted: Sat September 6, 2008 11:46 AM UTC
I shall be in Kiev from September 12 to 19, 2008 - a little bit of business, a
football match (Dinamo v Arsenal) and, most of all, a holiday. I'm looking for
suggestions for fun in the evenings. I've seen all the reviews of clubs on
various web sites but I'm really not a fan of loud disco music. I shall probably
have a quick look inside some of them, but what I'm really looking for are
lively and busy bars where I can meet and talk to people (without having to
shout above the music!). My preference would be for 'local' people - I speak
Russian (I studied for one month in Kiev 26 years ago!), but I have not spoken
it for a long time, so people would need to be patient :-)

Looked at Villamarina Club, Cye Holiday Centre, H10 Playa Margarita and Estival Park in La Pineda. Has anyone got any recommendations for either or alternatives. Want to go to beach and Portaventura and do not want to spend a fortune on taxis.

Amsterdam Reminder: Free monuments and fortressses
Posted: Sat September 6, 2008 06:13 AM UTC
A tip/reminder:

Many Dutch monuments are open for free next weekend (Open Monumentendag, September 13+14). See the website for additional information:

http://www.openmonumentendag.nl/paginas/38/english/summary

In additional, September is the month that many of the fortresses around Amsterdam are open to the public in the weekends (often free as well). These fortresses are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

See the websites below for more information, and make sure that the fortress that you pick is open in that specific weekend, because some are open only one day.

Hi again,
I'm looking for advice on where to stay for one night in Prague. Can anyone recommend a certain area to stay for a single female, that's pretty safe, shops & cafes around. I've been looking in the old town, but wondering if there is another district that may be nice as well.
Thanks

Norway NSB trains the same line as 'norway in a nutshell'?
Posted: Fri September 5, 2008 11:30 PM UTC
hi all!
my boyfriend & i will be in norway in october, and planning to travel from oslo to bergen via NSB train; then to trondheim, then all the way down to stavanger. seems a lot cheaper to us to just buy individual tickets (mini-pris) to each destination on the NSB train, but we want to make sure we still get a scenic route. does anyone know if the routes are the same as the 'norway in a nutshell' ones? or at least equally as scenic?

thanks so much!
